Hampshire batsman Michael Lumb had an Indian Premier League debut to forget as the Rajasthan Royals suffered a humiliating third successive defeat against Bangalore Royal Challengers.
Lumb opened the batting in the absence of injured South Africa captain Graeme Smith and was stumped by Mark Boucher for ten (18 balls) to become the first of Anil Kumble’s three victims as Rajasthan were dismissed for just 92.
With Hampshire captain Dimi Mascarenhas injured, Damien Martyn (19 from 24 balls) also made his IPL debut while Yusuf Pathan top scored with a 24-ball 26 before he was run out.
Martyn became the first of Praveen Kumar’s three victims as the 23-year-old claimed IPL 3’s first hat trick before finishing with 3 for 18.
Rajasthan also struggled against the bowling of Kumble (3 for 9), Dale Steyn (4-0-18-0) and Jacques Kallis (2 for 20), who hit an unbeaten 44 (34 balls) as Bangalore raced to a ten-wicket win.
The likes of Rahul Dravid and Eoin Morgan were not required as Kallis’s opening partner Manish Pandey struck an unbeaten 42 (30 balls) to help Bangalore reach their target in just 10.4 overs.
Next up for Rajasthan is a home game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday morning.
