Hampshire captain Dimitri Mascarenhas could be out till June with an Achilles injury.
The 32-year-old flew home from the Indian Premier League last week and could now miss the first two months of the county season and the World Twenty20.
Hampshire manager Giles White said: "The injury is a little worse than originally feared."
