FORMER Saints keeper Michael Poke wants to prove a point to his former club after joining Brighton.

The 24-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the Seagulls after being released from St Mary’s earlier this summer.

Poke will move to the Withdean when his contract officially expires on July 1.

He will have to challenge fellow Brighton stopper Peter Brezovan for the number one shirt.

But Poke is determined to grab hold of it, so he can show Saints he is capable of playing in League One.

“It would be great to play against Saints next season home and away, just to prove a point,” he said.

“I’m excited to be here. It’s a good club to be at, especially with the new ground going up.

“Now I just can’t wait to get started, prove a point to everyone and try to get that shirt.”

Poke, who made just four appearances in six years at Saints, added he was excited about working with Brighton manager Gus Poyet (pictured right).

“I can’t wait to play under him,” he said.

“I’ve been told good things about the goalkeeping coach, Tony Godden, as well.”
