AP will treat this the same as last year i think with the big "Winning Mentality Thing" which i can relate to, BUT we need to be the big Man Utd or Chelsea of this league this year and with the big clubs you DO see them prioritise competitions to prevent burnout and it DOES work...so although i was well chuffed when we won the JPT last year lets give it to the kids this year!!!! we have bigger fish to fry this year and its vital for htis club that we do!!!

Could be another battle with the cherries and the only team that even slightly concerns me is Swindon but they have lost players so not the force they were last season. And the way I see it it's an extra early game to get our match fitness uptogether. why should we get a bye anyway, as champions we should have to defend from start to finsh! COYS!!!

Would be interesting to know the criteria for getting a bye.
I can understand teams being relegated from the Championship being given a bye, but not teams that finished below us in Div 1 last season.

As someone else said, give this tournament to the youngsters and maybe put experience on the bench to rescue games where needed, depending on how much importance we give the competition this season.
Not worth risking injuries for.

Last season to win the JPT was quality and a great step in the right direction and gave us all an excellent day out but this year promotion is priority. Thats all I want from this season just to go up so like others have said let the boys play in this cup and lets rest our first team for the long season ahead

AP has said very clearly that this club needs a winning mentality, thats means trying to win the lot, The paint pot,jam pot or flowerpot....irrespe
ctive of its importance.
I get the thinking behind,lets not get crocked for it,but that winning mentality he craves,cant be switch on and off.
Anyway why play a second string and possibly get dumped out of it,wouldnt make sense.
My monies on him wanting to win it again.But - saying that it could be dependant on a good run in another cup comp......

With our squad + 2/3 more signings we should have no doubt in being able to compete in all four competitions. We should definately be capable of focusing on winning promotion and having success in cup competitions, my prediction for the season:
League 1: Win
FA Cup: Quarter finals
League cup: Quarter finals
JPT: Win

Saintrooty- Swindon have lost two players Paynter and Greer. They will still be a force and i think because they have lost those two do not underestimate the players they have brought in they are going to be a strong side again this season and Danny Wilson is a wily old fox and is a good manager at this level. They are going to be in the promotion push this season without a doubt as for the JPT they always like to go out as soon as they can to concentrate on the league.

I agree with the majority about this cup...we should let the kids play and forget it..it's not important, and neither are any of the other cups this season. Leeds nearly messed up their promotion because of their massive cup commitments last season, and I feel we could go the same way. Also, too much risk of injuries and burn-out. I for one wouldn't care if we got knocked out of all of them just for this season if it meant promotion. Bye selection is interesting though...knowing the FL it was probably taking names out of a hat!

Ap will want to win everything and do well in every competition regardless of it's importance, Thats exactly what he as manager will demand from whoever he picks for the games in league and cup. We all know what the priority is this season, Promotion! weather thats 1st 2nd or through the play-offs it does not matter as long as it is achieved? Ap has blooded and used many of the young players in pre-season and will no doubt give them oportunities throughout this season. And so far Ap has been outstanding in the transfer market and would no doubt be looking to further strengthen our talented squad further with the right available players.

I am not fussed at all with the jPT. Sure, I might pop along to some of the games, but we need to focus on the league and not any of the cups. I'd love it if we were in the later stages of the FA Cup, but I'd far prefer to see us in the Championship next season.

Let the youth play in the cups and concentrate our firepower in the league.

I'd also say that we still don't have the squad to win the league. Sure, our first team should win the league on talent and form, but we don't yet have the full team cover needed to what is a long season.

Whatever happens, I'm there every time I can afford it! :o) COYWWARS

When fans consider whether AP should play our 2nd.eleven(+backup from 1st eleven) in Cup games it is worth remembering that the club is expected "to pay it's way" which means that we need to be in a cup competition for as long as possible to get the revenue in.
How often have you heard that 'a good cup run kept the club in business this year'?
What's the estimate as to how much Saints earned from their game against Pompey last season for example.?
And don't the 1st.team players look forward to testing themselves v. the likes of Man.U. and Chelsea in later rounds.
I agree with others that my priority as a supporter is promotion but the season is about more than the League only.

Last season A.P used a lot of different players in the JPT, but you must always ensure the team picked is strong enough to win.
I hate it when teams in the prem cant be bothered to take a cup game seriously, so I would hate Saints to do the same. If I pay my money to watch, then I expect to see quality.
If I wanted to watch poor shody football then I would go to Fratton Park.
Aim to win every game, thats the attitude.

No one in there right mind plays the best 11, if ur going for promotion or a title, even relegation battles (the quarter finals of the F.A Cup maybe different).
Both these moaners went to Wembley last year-the book is closed on that one. Alan Pardew benefitted from the JPT last year by giving other squad members an airing, and finding some gems too. This will carry over into this season, this club no longer follows the Premier League dogma, we've people on board who can see the bigger picture.
We aren't in the Premier League dogma.....because we're not in the Premier League ? AP did benefit from the JPT, winning it saved his job ! I'm not a "moaner" I'm just a realist! We've got too many games as it is (league,fa cup,league cup and Mickey Mouse cup!) Give the young guys experience in the first team! And FYI, I didn't go to Wembley because I couldn't get excited about it! TRUTH! It would have been fantastic with all the fans, even tho for most it was there first game of the season! The F.A cup YES! Even the League cup! JPT Trophy....wtf is that! "Let's see who's the best of the worse!" If you like it so much support Bournemouth because we won't be playing in it next season!

Last season A.P used a lot of different players in the JPT, but you must always ensure the team picked is strong enough to win. I hate it when teams in the prem cant be bothered to take a cup game seriously, so I would hate Saints to do the same. If I pay my money to watch, then I expect to see quality. If I wanted to watch poor shody football then I would go to Fratton Park. Aim to win every game, thats the attitude. Evening Slugger
