SAINTS will not receive a bye through the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, despite being the defending champions.
Alan Pardew's men went straight through to the second round last year, but will have to begin their bid for back-to-back titles a stage earlier.
The first round draw, which is split into four sections, will take place on Saturday, August 14.
Saints are in the southern section (west), along with Cherries, Aldershot, Exeter, Oxford, Swindon, Torquay and Yeovil.
Ties will be played in the week beginning August 30.
Saints won the JPT last season with a thumping 4-1 win over Carlisle at Wembley.
Full first-round draw details...
Accrington Stanley, Macclesfield, Morecambe, Oldham, Port Vale, Rochdale, Shrewsbury, Tranmere.
Chesterfield, Hartlepool, Lincoln, Northampton, Notts County, Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday, Walsall.

No one in there right mind plays the best 11, if ur going for promotion or a title, even relegation battles (the quarter finals of the F.A Cup maybe different).
Only one thing matters this season, winning the league. Play the fringe players in the Joke Paint Cup. We cant risk injuries, bookings ect. Yeah yeah, lovely day out at Wembley blah blah blah. Every man an his dog now plays at Wembley, its devalued.

I hate it when teams in the prem cant be bothered to take a cup game seriously, so I would hate Saints to do the same. If I pay my money to watch, then I expect to see quality. If I wanted to watch poor shody football then I would go to Fratton Park. Aim to win every game, thats the attitude. promotion is the aim but remember in the JPT a team needs to field a certain number of first teamers I think it was 6-8 so lambo, kelv, jose, lallana and the frenchman need to be rested. Looking forward to the game tomorrow and seeing our team for the first time this season. COYS
