Paul Tisdale rules out Saints job

FORMER Saint Paul Tisdale has ruled himself out of a potential return to the club.

The ex-Dell midfielder, now in charge at Saints' League One rivals Exeter City, turned down the chance to manage at St Mary's prior to Alan Pardew taking over in July 2009.

Pardew's dismissal earlier this week led to comments from one of Exeter's directors that they were bracing themselves for another Saints approach.

But Tisdale, who has twice turned down approaches from Swansea in the past two summers, has said: "I'm happy at Exeter - the job's not finished yet, so I haven't been swayed by any vacancy.

"I'm pretty committed to where I am at present, so on Saturday I'll be an Exeter City manager."

He added: "Southampton is a former club that I spent a long time at, and I'm a follower of the Saints."

I know it probs wont happen but i would like ot see Zola or Leonardo do it. If they are not available - curbishly would be good, i dont rate keegan, he spends millions of pounds, doesnt really get the club anywhere and when he gets sacked, takes the club to the cleaners, he is like Souness and veneables - made a fortune doing a half ars*d job.

Did he get the assistant groundsman job then ??? Or is he there for interview?

Apparently Gazza was seen there too - turned out he was looking for a place called The Priory.

Kevin keegan resigned from Newcastle because of the people upstairs having too much say over transfers etc.

It's going to be exactly the same scenario here so why would he take the job???

I'd have been happy with Tisdale - I like the cut of his jib. But I kind of repect him for staying at Exeter though as they're a bloody good little club and a shining example of people getting together to run a club so that every fan owns a share and everyone shares in the rewards. A bit like Barcelona, but in Devon.
.
Talking of Barcelona, how come no one's mentioned Pep Guardiola yet? He's makes Jose Mourhino look like Jim Smith and is only slightly more far fetched than most of the names that are being touted on here.

Phil Brown, all good but is he better than pardew??
Shearer, no experienece except 2months at newcastle
Gareth Southgate, not too sure about him either
Keegan is a joker, he will be off at the 1st sign of trouble
Ive gotta say its a bloody tough call, Im glad i havent gotta call it. I can see there being a few unhappy faces at st marys unless its curbishley or O-neil, but they are both unlikely in all.

Does anyone reall believe that Martin O'Neill will take the job??? The fact that there has been no immeadiate appointment means that there doesnt seem to have been a master plan by NC when he sacked Pardew. Dont think we will ever know the real reasons behind his dismissal as i am sure AP would of signed an agreement to remain tight lipped on the subject in exchange for the payment of the remainder of his contract. Some of the names being linked with the job on here seem a little far fetched to me. I think we need to remember that we are a league one club, albeit a big one with a good squad (arguably the best in the division) and I really cannot see a big name manager coming here, certainly not MO, think we have got more chance of Bob Paisley taking the job!!! This next appoinment is critical and I think it is good that NC is taking his time, we need a considered appointment not a knee jerk one. Its a tough call and I certainly wouldnt want to be the one making the decision. Whoever gets it you will never have 100% of the fans onside, but its important that we give them time. I for one was horrified when GS got the job and look how good he turned out when given some time!!! Lets hope we give Rochdale a good hiding tomorrow as if we dont win the natives are going to get very restless!!! COYR!!

your comment about Hoddle amuses me..........did you actually see in person any of the Hoddle games???
because to me we may of played keep ball but without actually progressing up the park.......it always seemed to me that Hoddle sent his team out not to lose but if we snatched a goal all well and good. Hoddle never played good attacking football and we certainly never scored a bucketful of goals under him......to me the best ever attacking footballing side was during the LM era......this is the type of exciting football that i am sure we would all love to see our club play.
and no that does not mean i want LM as our next manager.

But let's just hope he's not playing "hard to get" because quite frankly we just don't want him. He's not good enough.
Realistically, someone like Eddie Howe, Nigel Adkins (hadn't thought of him 'til now) or Sean O'Driscoll have got what it takes - a bit like Simon Grayson before he stepped into the breach at Leeds and look how that's turned out.
Otherwise take a punt on Tony Mowbray or someone from Italy or Gerard Houllier even.... But for now let's get behind Dean Wilkins, who put up a great case on the OS along with Hammond's hagiography. Who knows, he might even turn out to be the answer for this season...

Well bugger me - I didn't see that one coming. I'd be happy with it though. A hungry, talented manager on his way up would be great for us.

Sadly, a lot of fans will be disappointed if it's not a big name but it's worth remembering that Bill Shankly, Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger came from relatively minor clubs and went on to become the best managers in those clubs' history.

I agree (almost) entirely and I think we may be able to say told you so. Italian Chairman for me equals Italian manager. Zola seems the obvious choice. Curbs isn't that good so that's where we disagree.

This article reassures me like it has so many others. Tisdale would be a step back from our 'caretaker'.

I agree we have a quality squad and buy all accounts the team get on well with wilky and he comes accross as a stand up guy so as long as they put the past week behind them i see no reason we shouldnt win on sat. More haste less speed as they say better to wait a bit and get the right bloke for the job. Personally i would like to see hoddle back but i know some fans might find it to forgive and forget but you have to agree we played some cracking football while he was at the helm.
I don't have any ideological objection to Hoddle coming back and don't blame him for leaving us, but did you not read the Le Tiss book? He doesn't exactly paint a glowing portrait of Hoddle's skills as a man manager.
Sadly the last book i read was at school way back in the last milenium by some blokey called shakespeare which pretty much put me off but perhaps this maybe the second book i attempt to read as clearly it would seem to have some interesting insights into our club but as im pretty disfukkksick it may take a while.
Heh - it's called Taking Le Tiss. Believe me, it's not Shakespeare.

Trouble with giving the underdog a chance is that they're not usually given time as we've seen in our history. I accept the excited and exasperated comment from those whom claim to be Saints supporters. it is of course understandable even though much of it iis far short of credible.

What really annoys me is the comments from such as Parkinson and Fletcher, who appear to claim some form of expertise and where their unrequested views are clearly and dangerously based on a lack of knowledge and mis-information.

As an expert witness I know the dangers of passing off opinion and comment as possible fact.

At the end of the day I suspect strongly that only two people, NC and AP know exactly what happened. As a business man NC would I am sure not have taken the action that he did with out strong reason. The legal consequences without that reason would/could be disastrous. I would also not expect NC to publish the reasons for his actions. I certainly have not in similar actions that have culminated in the sacking of staff.

Whilst I can see that some of NC's actions may not have been entirely popular; I can see the business merit in them and toatally believe that if we are to survive as the great football club that we are, then those in charge must take business decisions, preferably without the threat of inane baying and cat calling from our fans.

It has been said before but in NC and the late Markus family we trust. Now we must do our part and support, support and support or Team and Club.

COYS and all enjoy Saturday.

Most of the big names bandied about are out of work. What does that really say about them?
In reality, only a few managers are any good. They are the ones who have been at their clubs for long periods. All the rest? well they can do a job but whether you will get success is a bit of a lottery. Every one of them will want to come in and change the squad and bring in 'their own players'. What that measns is they are rubbish mangers because they cannot manage the team they inherit or get the best out of them. Remember, the curent squad were brought in because they were supposed to be better than we already had so why do you really need to replace them? What we need is a manager who can manage. Unfortunately they are few and far between. Maybe NC will apply some business logic to his choice and get someone who can really do the job and not some one who thinks they can do the job.

NC) looking through all the candidate CVs in your InTray and the majority gave the reason for leaving previous job as "sacked" (some with disturbing frequency), would you invite them for interview? I think not. And I have a hunch that NC is thinking the same. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised by the appointment. Out of all the names being bandied around, I'd like to see Leonardo. Having supported the Saints since 1953 I, as much as any supporter, would love to see a "big" name appointed as manager. The problem as I see it is a "big" name will be in a no win situtation. At the start of the season Saints were red-hot favourites for promotion having, and it is widely excepted, the strongest squad in the division. Should say Martin O'Neill take the reins if he won promotion comments would be "well with that squad he couldn't fail". If he failed to win promotion his reputation would be severely tarnished. NC has, I believe, the very difficult task of having to recognise a young and up and coming manager, in other words, the next Martin O'Neill. I truly wish him well.

Whilst it is very entertaining to watch endless triangle passes, fancy flick ons and the search for the killer pass at St Marys could it be that we need a more direct approach to acheive promotion?

Our current style of play appears to me to give teams endless time to get back behind the ball after they have lost it. They then regroup and defend in massed numbers whilst we attempt to work the ball toward their goal.

The transfer window has closed and we still have no pace up front. Solution? Stick Ricky(on Tuesday he appeared to spend most of his time behind his own forwards) up front with a n other playing off him,by pass the midfield and play the long ball game.Agreed, not the best to watch but if it gets the desired result and us out of this miserable league who cares?

We need a manager in the prime of managerial life, with the crispness and energy, and lack of baggage, that goes with that - so big names from the past, like Keegan, would do us no good. Managers living out of a suitcase a long way from their wife's roots are also bad news, so I would have welcomed Tisdale. Most of the potential managers mentioned in the Echo and on these posts are just not qualified for the job. They do not have the experience of the Championship or of the Premier League.. Zola would be an absolute disaster at this level. He is too much of a 'nice guy'. I would be seriously concerned if he were appointed.

We want a manager that will command instant respect amongst the players, a proven winner at this level. We also need someone who knows the lower tiers of the English game - not someone who will do a 'Sven' (at County) and shot off as soon as things get tough. League 1 is not about glam, it's about grit.

For me, that leaves the following candidates: Reid, Jackett, Billy Davis and Curbishley as the long shot. Perhaps the only non British candidate I would consider is Poyet.

The more I think about it the removal of Pardew would not have been down to a the fact that NC didn't like him, if that were the case he would have gone at the end of last season. In which case the other explaination being rumoured is more likely. I wonder if that it obtuse enough to keep my post on the board rather than be removed like yesterdays!

NC keeps his own counsel and my bet is someone from Europe and who is completely unknown to us at the moment. I look forward to a season one day where we do not have a drama and can make steady progress. It was never like this under Mr Bates.
After the drivel that's been appearing about this I must say I agree with every word you say. Sensible and plainly put (... do you want a job? I will be looking to recruit later this afternoon).
I accept-I still have my players pass from the 1959/60 season-will that get me into the ground ?. I could jog a bit and be fit for Saturday. Perhaps I could have a smart track suit and run up and down the side of the pitch when the rest of the team are playing. With a good trot and jog I might get 5/10 in the Echo write up for performance. Will £20,000 a week be ok. Must go-work to do
I've told O'Neill he's too late. The jobs yours.

That's exactly what I was thinking. He even ended it by saying he's a follower, not by saying "I'm a follower but do not want the job"

Unless results are disastrous - gut feeling is that Dean Wilkins will be given a chance and that it will be a while before we see the new Gaffer. Based on the fact that the Club believe the framework and Players are in place.

A Top appointment is needed -but how to get the best when you are in League One and then there is the issue of Salary and Money available. For an ambitious Manager this Club has all the potential for someone wanting to make a name for themselves.

The Club should seriously be looking for a Loan striker currently on form - it is a healthy place to be competition for places to put on the Southampton Shirt.

Come on Saints on Saturday - lets get behind the Team - for what I saw on Tuesday they need it !!

Tugboat I have made it clear i'm not against fans from all corners of the country or having their opinions. Thats football, but this guy is ruining this forum for me and as I suspected others too. Just back off! Is what i'm trying to say. On some stories he posts up to 40 times leaving the rest of us to scroll through his dross to get to the posts from people actually in the know i.e. who have been to the game. If anything its in his own interests to get out more. I dont think any of my posts have been arrogant, think its what most of us have been thinking but ive just had the guts to say it. I have been on football forums all my life and have never come across such arrogance as this guy. Please go away!

LegendSaint, it's a funny thing but the further away you get from Southampton the more you realise how amazing it is. I'm a mere 200 miles away and I can't tell you how much I miss the tree-lined avenues, the old city walls and the sense of being home. So if you're on the other side of the world then Southampton would seem like every holy land ever created in the history of religion, and criticism of it and its football team is going to provoke a bit of a response. I'm not saying Dan's posts are for everyone, but you have to understand they're motivated by affection.

Oh dear Legend Saint - it's exactly as I expected - opinion will always be divided on this issue!
It's a shame that people can't get their heads around it being NOTHING to do with where someone lives, rather their tendency to assert an opinion that's not based in fact... and on occasions in extremely long-winded dross.

Indeed just because someone lives miles away doesnt make them any less of a fan and dddeerr theres a new fangled invention called the internet where you can watch any game you want and oh theres TV and radio too. So just because your not in the stand doesnt mean you dont watch the game. good grief. Cant wait til hes online

He probably talks about Saints just as much as any of us, but since he can't do it with his mates he has to do it all on here! The comments about him not having an opinion because he's on the other side of the world is ridiculous, of course you can watch all the highlights etc online. So Dan loving your work with the thoughts and passion but maybe just chill out a bit with all the posts yeah?

I agree we have a quality squad and buy all accounts the team get on well with wilky and he comes accross as a stand up guy so as long as they put the past week behind them i see no reason we shouldnt win on sat. More haste less speed as they say better to wait a bit and get the right bloke for the job. Personally i would like to see hoddle back but i know some fans might find it to forgive and forget but you have to agree we played some cracking football while he was at the helm.
your comment about Hoddle amuses me..........did you actually see in person any of the Hoddle games??? because to me we may of played keep ball but without actually progressing up the park.......it always seemed to me that Hoddle sent his team out not to lose but if we snatched a goal all well and good. Hoddle never played good attacking football and we certainly never scored a bucketful of goals under him......to me the best ever attacking footballing side was during the LM era......this is the type of exciting football that i am sure we would all love to see our club play. and no that does not mean i want LM as our next manager.
To be fair look at the players LM had at his disposal compared to the hod.I'm not one of those who criticised him for going to spurs. In any chosen proffession if you're offerred the job you've always wanted on more money why wouldn't you take it.However don't think he's the man now.Choice - Danny Wilson - his teams always seem to play attractive football and above their paper capability.

So if you're on the other side of the world then Southampton would seem like every holy land ever created in the history of religion, and criticism of it and its football team is going to provoke a bit of a response. I'm not saying Dan's posts are for everyone, but you have to understand they're motivated by affection.
Hear, hear! Well said, Retford. I'm 1200 miles away and share your views. Anyway - lay off Dan. If half of us were as enthusiastic and passionate about Saints as he is there'd be less doom and gloom on here. COYRAWA!!!!!!
Like I have said a few times, have no issue with fans from all corners of the globe but his 'enthusiasm' is ruining it for the rest of us. There are loads of them on here including yourself and no one has a problem with them, just this guy. I'm sorry but that speaks volumes. I cant make it to every game and he clogs up the whole forum whilst i'm looking for peoples reviews of the game. It needs to stop.
The problem isn't Dan it's every fan on here who has too much to say and turn our blogs into party political broadcasts. Dan sometimes does that but so do loads of others. Maybe there should be a 100 word limit and then the page wouldn't get full of detritus and people would get to the point.

He doesnt strike me as arrogant at all. Why is your opinion so more important ? We all come on here for a natter, dan included. Its a worldwide family.............. .... Perhaps you could keep your posts to saints matters and not pick on fellow saints. Please read your post again for the definition of arrogance........... .......
Nope
I meant dan please go away.
Why should he ? he is a saints fan, dont you get it, that gives dan the right to post, who gives a stuff whether you like reading it or not. Others might, Like me,if his positive posts offend you that much, get therapy............o r just skip past them. What are you the site gestapo?
Your missing the point friendo. As stated before no one has a problem with his comitment and althought it would be nice i'm not saying he shouldnt post. Just as others have stated, can he just chill out a bit.
Nope you still dont get it do you , That fact itself has me worried about your mental health. He has as much right to post what he likes on this site and you have no say in it, "friendo". Is that spanish by the way ? Do you live abroad ? You still are trying to speak for everyone else, why ? are you russian by any chance ? Your opinion is exactly that, but why has that turned into you being the spokesman for every man and his dog? Are you lonely ?
You have called yourself tugboat. Think we have all deduced your metal state from that lol.
Once again you have posted about fredom of speach and made references to being based in another country both of which are issues no one has an issue with except you apparently.
We are mearly asking for his volume of posts (upwards of 80 on each article) to be restricted as it is quite simply selfish.

Point taken.

My main issue is the length of some posts and the quotes of quotes etc with the brown nosing a close second. You're right the chat does start towards the end of the blogs. I don't want Dan to stop (although you do preach a bit sometimes Dan) and I suppose the community we have on here is important.

There's 200 odd posts on here and that's typical with hardly anything interesting to read. (I'm now guilty of causing that so sorry everyone).

Hard hat on, ready for the abuse, fire away...... 3 -1 tomorrow anyone?
Exactly my sentiments OSPREYSAINT,so much utter dross to plough through, so many have to have the last word in petty little war of words...pathetic really.Just give me good well written posts of intelligence, not bothered if i disagree with it,i just enjoy reading what others think thats all.I`ve said it already but i`ll say it again my top 3 choices in no particular order are Tony Mobray,Sean O`Driscoll and Danny Wilson.Leeds,Norwich and Millwall went up with Grayson,Lambert and Jackett at the helm.

Will Anthony Pulis ever make an appearance for the first team? Obviously he has taken up the option of a 3rd year of his contract so we cant get shot of him. What a waste of space he is. I guess he really should step up to the plate and earn his wages. Maybe a loan spell would benefit him and switch him on?
Does anyone else have an opinion on this individual?

Why blame him or slate him..?. He didn't sign himself.
If he's not good enough it's down to the manager to either transfer list him or loan him out.
You never know he might make a cracking cup of tea for the lads after training.

Check his career stats. Has been at numerous clubs but only played in 18 competitive games. He was at plymouth when his dad was there, he was at stoke when his dad was there and also at portsmouth when his dad was there. Need I say more? The guy is scum. Sure the 3rd year would have to be mutual surely?

Sorry to bring this up again. I don't think anyone has mentioned c*** about Dan. I'm not necessarily fighting his corner, but this NZ-based guy is a red and white blooded Saints supporter who is going to wake up with one helluva shock when he reads all this. Take it with a pinch of salt, Dan. And a large Tequila.

Whether that's a statement or a question it's 100% correct. Slightly off the Paul Tisdale thread though (thank goodness).

Neither really just and observation! Would you prefer the traditional manager or a director of football with a group of coaches?

As I've stated previously, I think we will all be pleasantly surprised by NC's choice. As for the group of coaches, they can be found in Britannia Road during any home game at SMS. By the way, you don't have to venture in to Alicante if you're looking for some fun!

My final contribution for the evening is just to clarify that Dan isn't sad but the quantity of posts is true (or were at the time of writing). Time for some more Gran Rioja and the prospect of tres puntas mañana. Hopefully, the Echo will have a new thread, this time, about the Chuckle Brothers on Saturday. Of course, it will be about the demise of SC at PFC. Enjoy and respect to NC!
