Wilkins: Pards exit no excuse for bad results

Dean Wilkins refused to blame the sacking of Alan Pardew for Saints’ second miserable home defeat in the space of five days.

Pardew was axed after the team put in a scintillating display to demolish Bristol Rovers 4-0 away from home.

And since then the side have relinquished their grip on the JPT by crashing 3-0 to Swindon and suffered a horrendous 2-0 loss to Rochdale at St Mary’s.

The latest defeat was particularly galling for the club’s fans, coming as it does against one of the minnows of the division.

Saints look like a team affected by the departure of their manager, but caretaker boss Wilkins said: “I’m certainly not going to use it as an excuse.

“We are professional people, the players are professionals and they are paid to come in and do their best every day, which is what they do generally, so no.”

Wilkie may well say this but any football fan with an ounce of knowledge must surely disagree after Saturday and listening against swindon. AP's departure has left us looking like we are in dissaray and without trying to pick on a single player its hard not to point out the difference in Lambert. Looks completeley un-interested at the moment. Whoever comes in will have a job on his hands to get us to start playing and living up to our favourites tag. I just hope NC lives up to the hype of being a great business man and ensures we get the right man for the job. At the moment still have some faith but like a lot of us i am very worried.
p.s Hope its ok for me to add to this forum as I do live in NZ so probably have no right to, reading what some other idiots seem to think, keep it up Dan. Wether I agree or disagree its good to read someones view who obviously loves our great football club.

As a neutral and only the 2nd time at St Marys, the game was awful, but I sensed the crowd still think they are a premiership side and patently they are not. A fairly mundane bunch of skill was evident but not promotion material by a long way. The manager took his "best" player off and left on a numpty who missed several chances and whose thinking had left him.

They looked really poor on Saturday and whilst I can sympathise with Dean I am sure they miss a leader Wilkins & Hunter were to close to the Players under AP and cannot now revert to being bosses
I think we should steal Poyet

We will never know the reason for the departure of AP,but if the rumours are to be believed it was not football related
The idea of a caretaker manager is to keep things ticking over after the previous manager departs.
AP left after a 4-0 away win.Wilkins takes over and manages 2 home defeats. The blame must surely be on his shoulders. He is a former manager so SHOULD have been able to keep things going,if only for the sake of keeping his job when the new manager comes in

Pardew's sacking has evey thing to do with it. This just goe's to show how clueless Dean Wilkins realy is a nice guy yes but that's no good having a player's pal as boss they need some one who give's erm a kick up the back-side someone they fear to upset and someone with a footballing brain . NC COME ON AND WAKE UP.

This is just another stir against The Chairman.. all will be fine when he brings in the wow replacement..

Hi Stopcox.. I have heard the stapleford rumour similar to the one at west ham in 2006..re Pards but whether he was considered out of poor in or out of work I'm for giving Wilkie a go while he caretakes. Laugh but Wilkie was on 34%wins at Brighton while Pards was 31% at Charlton ;o

Plenty of faith..still just 6 from top and a game in hand.. COYR
