SCUNTHORPE winger Jonathan Forte has sealed a move to Saints with Jason Puncheon signing for for Premier League Blackpool.

Forte, a 24-year-old winger who can also play up front, has been reunited with his former boss, Nigel Adkins, at St Mary's after signing a three and a half year deal.

The fee has not been confirmed but is understood to be nominal with Forte out of contract at the end of the season and Scunthorpe happy to sell as they were unlikely to offer him a new deal.

Forte, who has scored four times for the Iron this season, moved to Glanford Park in the summer of 2007 from Sheffield United.

He is seen as a replacement for Puncheon who has completed a loan move to Blackpool.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been out of favour ever since Adkins took over as manager.

He enjoyed a loan spell at Millwall where he scored five goals in seven games but after returning to face Blackpool in the FA Cup was left out by Adkins because he was unsettled.

Puncheon will now get his chance to ply his trade at the highest level after Blackpool took him on loan for the rest of the season.

The rest of Saints' transfer deadline day news saw Alex Chamberlain remain at the club, West Ham have an approach rebuffed for Aaron Martin, Joseph Mills extend his loan deal at Doncaster until the end of the season and Tommy Forecast join Eastbourne for 28 days.
