Jonathan Forte got his Saints career up and running with what could prove to be a vital two goals in their automatic promotion push.

The Barbados striker has found his chances severely limited since he joined up with Nigel Adkins again at the end of January, following the Saints boss from Scunthorpe.

In fact, his substitute appearance against MK Dons was only his fifth since moving to St Mary’s.

But he could hardly have had a bigger impact as two goals followed in the space of just a couple of minutes to set Saints on their way to a memorable win.

“I’m delighted obviously for the result and for me getting two goals as well,” smiled Forte, who hadn’t scored since November.

“It’s a great day for me.

“The gaffer said I was coming into a club with a settled team so I had to work my way in and do the best I can whenever I’m on the pitch.

“I couldn’t believe it – the ball came across and I put it in the net.

“We are aiming for automatic promotion and hopefully that will help us on our way.”
