Southampton 2 Millwall 3

Saints 2 Millwall 3 Saints 2 Millwall 3

Saints suffered a dramatic FA Cup defeat against Millwall at St Mary's.

Former Salisbury City and AFC Bournemouth winger Liam Feeney came off the bench before scoring an outstanding winner in injury time.

The Londoners took a 17th-minute lead through Liam Trotter, who fired in from the edge of the box.

But Saints looked to be heading for a fifth-round tie with Bolton Wanderers when Adam Lallana hit a brilliant equaliser before half-time and sub Rickie Lambert hit his 20th of the season.

But former Saint Dany N'Guesan headed in an 80th minute equaliser.

And then Feeney raced down the left wing and cut on to his right foot before finding the top corner.

If Aaron Martin plays, we dont win. That is now very clear. When the transfer window closed last week and we didnt sign a central defender, my prediction was we will finish 6th in the league. I stand by that, unless we get someone in on loan. I'm not that bothered about the cup, but we could have used this to get the 1st team back together to thump a team just off the relegation places. We didnt, and we didnt. On the plus side I thought we played some cracking football in the snow aginst Brum and looked a bit like our early season selves. Should have built on that today. I'm not angry, Im just disappointed. As my old mum would say...

What on earth is the excuse going to be this time Mr Adkins?

I have been one of your biggest supporters against your critics recently but it is wearing a bit thin now.

We have obtained eleven points out of a posible thirty since December and are now dumped out of the cup by Millwall at the second attempt!

For pity sake stop messing about with the team selection. It really is not difficult. Simply put your best team out week after week and do not change it unless there is an injury or suspension problem. The great Saints teams played two games a week on this basis for years.

With great respect all you are doing recently is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I am beginning to think that either you or your players do not want success for fear of the loss of their jobs in the Premiership!

8,493 still not good enough, the 12th man went missing, I am bitterly cold and bitterly disappointed, open the floodgates for the gripers and whingers, but they have plenty of ammunition.

Another humiliating defeat. Where will this bad run end? There's something going wrong behind the scenes at Saints. How else can you explain a team that was once flying high that is now struggling to put together a decent performance. Yes, of course, we're still 2nd in the league, but on present form we're heading for the play-offs at best, or for mid-table. Adkins had better get the show back on track PDQ or his contract should be terminated. No place for sentimentality.

It,s over a year since i posted on this forum. In my humble opinion, Adkins is once again to blame for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...WHY O WHY can he not leave alone when his team is winning. Instantly RL scores, there he is, tampering with the team, as he has this season on several occasions...Pompey away instantly springs to mind. I can't imagine what Lambert thinks of his tactics; as he said ''1'' should be enough. If he continues to mess around with the team when we get our noses in front, we won't make the play off's and to Cortese, after the start we got off to that will amount to abject FAILURE. Cortese might just be now having some regrets of firing Pardew, when he see's how well he's doing. Message to NA....LEAVE IT ALONE!! IF IT'S NOT BROKE... DONT TRY TO FIX IT.

This forum is here so we can pass comments, good or bad. You might not like everything or agree with everything you read but we are all entitled to our opinions. Here goes: I will be frank, Bart has to go, I think its time young Jack Dovey was called back from Eastleigh and was given the no:2 slot. Dan harding is good going forward but poor in defence, Fox is good in defence but poor going forward.Richardson is too slow, I have been saying it since last year, he always gets undone against pacey wingers and we have no cover in this position.De Ridder is too lightweight and will be gone in the next 12 months, Lee also looks a bit light but at least he's got the stomach for a fight.Barnard hardly got a kick tonight and when the opportunity did come he was too slow and his shot was blocked, another one who wont be around next year.We are talking about pro footballers here and if they cant play two games in a week then we are doing something wrong on the training ground, Adkins I implore you to start playing your strongest team every game from now on or we will be lucky to make the play offs. My final comment is on a more positive note, the best player in a saints shirt tonight was young Ben Reeves, he scored a great goal that was disallowed he is a class act and so is Luke Shaw. The future through the academy is looking bright, maybe we need to play some of the youngsters so some of the more experienced players in the group can see what it means to play for the shirt.

Strange posts on here tonight.

We all agreed that the beauty of the cup was to give Bart match time because he may have to play in the league at some stage, experiment with tactics, give the youth a go and help those coming back from injury get some competitive match time to start getting up to speed. That's exactly what he did and in many ways we were a bit unlucky.

Enjoyed the game despite the capitulation at the end. Ben Reeves might have a bright future and Lallana is back on form, but our defence worries me. Bart made some good saves but obviously doesn't inspire confidence in anyone. His kicking was poor too. Almost relieved when Millwall scored because I was about to die of hypothermia.

In the last three months WHEN have we been able to put out our best side, we've had atleast 6-7 key players out for one reason or another, ie as you point out injuries or suspensions, since November so of course NA has HAD to tinker so tell how he couldn't do anything but??? and if you actually listened to NA after the game he gave an honest and probably the frankest of interviews since coming here, and not one excuse in sight.

Too much passing the ball sideways and backwards between midfield and defence, then back to bart doing him no favours at all.
We keep putting ourselves under needless pressure.
I'm not blaming the officials because I think we got what we deserved but 2minutes after pulling up bart for taking a goal kick with a moving ball he lets them get away with it and 10 seconds later goal 3-2.
I'm glad this wasn't a league game, we must be more positive on Saturday a higher tempo is needed and maybe a bit more composure in front of goal.
Still a believer.

To the thousands who went, I salute you. To the thousands who didn't: it's hardly a surprise. The players, like the fans, only care aboiut the league at this point -- and would rather not play evening ties midweek in the freezing cold. We weren't going to win the fa cup, and it's a good thing for our recovery that we dump the distraction. Watch Millwall slump further in the league now. Fair play to them -- unlike us, they have nothing else to play for this season (except championship survival of course). Good luck to them.

This was a cup selection team.. perfectly entitled to experiment and give new players a run. We did well but lost to a lucky late strike. Cup is over.. would have nice but this year is all about getting promoted two years ahead of schedule on the five year plan. No one expected to be 2nd in the league at this time of the season!!
Anyone reading some of the negative twaddle written on here tonight would be forgiven for thinking that Saints fans have no back bone.
Saints fans are better than that.. don't let it get to you. Each performance has been better than the last and there are positives seen in most selections.. if not that's positive too in a cup game.. we learn.
If we were below play off places at this stage I could understand some moans.. but heck WE ARE 2ND TOP AND ARE GOING TO WIN THE LEAGUE. COYR when the going gets tough the tough get going. Well done to the 8k fans and the 300 from Millwall... froze for the game.. good on you all.

A constructive critique of tonight's game: Positives - Fonte, class, Hammond, best game for ages, Bart, good shot stopper, Reeves, best player on show. Negatives - Bart's kicking, will get us in to trouble, Martin, looks out of his depth, Richardson & De Ridder, poor crossing, midfield, gave them too much time on the ball & we generally lacked a creative spark. Shouldn't be losing at home to the likes of Millwall, but credit to them for playing good football & taking their chances.

I am disappointed that we could not go further. However, let's put it in perspective. Chappers is making his way back; we had some of the young lads playing. NA hoped RL could save it for us, but to their credit Milwall wanted it more than we did. Would like to know NA assessment of the game. But now we can concentrate on promotion. Adkins is our manager. Period! Let's get behind out team. We can discuss the what if's at the end of the season - if that is necessary. Until then, the cup is half full, not half empty. If we cruise to victory on Saturday, the naysayers will be quiet. Such is the nature of the beast. We can't expect anyone to help us. Even West Ham and five fired past them last week.
Be a fan and support your team!

we came from a very hard game on a slippery snow covered surface on sat arvo which would have taken alot out of tthe team
our goal all year was to be competitive and if we were in the top 10 at xmas then we will push for promotion
Well news flash, we are currently second on the table and major signings and injured players returning to boulster the squad, so to lose tonight in a game were basically the reserves and the fringe players get a game, well im happy for that, but all effort and concentration and every bit of ounce of effort and support should now go into our promotion bid. We drew our last 2 games against 2 of our major rivals and next tue west ham, and even a draw there will help as our fixture list is alot easier than our major opponents. For me i cant wait as i know that we will go up this year, but if we dont look out next season, just reemember where we were 3 years ago, and look at those just down the road, just be happy to be a saint.
one little bit of negativity is that we need a better back up goal keeper

Don't panic!

What a relief that some posters on here aren't the manager! Morale would be rock bottom, the entire team would be changed after every loss, we'd be bankrupt & on happy pills because we'd be so depressed.

What's the matter? We're in 2nd position in the Championship, less than three years after going into administration & starting League 1 rock bottom with minus 10 points.

We have a home game on Saturday with a virtually fit squad to choose from for the first time in ages, & I for one am very confident that we will win, further cementing an automatic promotion place to the Premier League.

What more could any real, loyal fan seriously want after our fall from grace in 2005?

Look at where we were, look at where we are now, look at Poopee & then be glad that we are Saints & ready for the challenge of the last 3 months of the season.

I would so love to be there cheering on my beloved Saints, so for those of you that can be there, please show your support, stop moaning & get behind the team.

Now is the time for steadfastness & resolute positivity, not whinging & whining. Show the rest of this division what great fans we are.

So, by your "reasoning" if you can't go to the game you are not allowed to have an opinion & are shouted down, derided & bullied by the moaning minority?

"Josh Wright who I had at Scunthorpe has had a field day because we have got nowhere near him and they have passed through us for fun. Once we have changed the shape people have applied themselves better, we have got more control of the football and presented a lot of chances.
"I thought Steve De Ridder started brightly, he has done well and Chung had an exceptional game, he was bright and his movement to run in behind was really positive.
"Ben Reeves was a breath of fresh air when he came on, he was good in possession of the ball, he was creative and I think he has got a great future in the game, so we are really pleased about that.
"So there are positives to take in the cold light of day, but I am very disappointed" NA

JOHNTHOMAS, if you think we are that bad , dont f@cking go and watch them. The rest of you so called fans can do likewise. We dont need you at ST MARY'S MOANING every time a pass goes a stray, we need fans that make a noise and get behind the team when things are hard. Just look at the other teams in this league and you will find that most of them have had a bad patch.
Tonight was disappointing but the linesman on the Itchen side of the ground was worse than any of our players, he was two yards behind play all night!!!. For their third goal Pheany was two yards offside with the linesman missing. To start saying LEE is rubbish after just over one hundred minutes on the pitch is talking out of your @rse. The poor lad can only point to where he wants the ball at this present time and he is not getting it. We could have VAN PERSIE playing for us up front but without the ball you would say he was fcuking cr@p.
We need to be as one on Saturday and if the bloke next to you starts moaning at the team tell him to sing his heart out for the boys and see if that approach will lift the team we are all suppose to support.
I spoke to Dodd'sy before the game tonight and i asked him to convey the fans gratitude to Nicola for what he has and will do for our club in the future, and i said if possible could he not come on to the pitch so that i for one could applaude him.
Rant over but our season IS NOT C O Y REDSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Lot of negative remarks, 'since November we have been rubbish' etc.

Well we may be playing badly but how come all the other teams in the league have not run up the table past us?

This is a tough league and no team has the right to be in the top 2 all season, they have to earn the right, as we have done.

Remember today is the beginning of the rest of the season.

I am not sure how some posters measure the value of being a fan, is it by buying a season ticket. (How much does that cost.) When I am in the U.K I visit Southampton hospitality which costs over £200 a game, but do not feel I am more of a supporter than our frinds in New Zealand, Australia or the U.S.A

I listened last night to the whole game - and to be honest if you asked me after 30-mins what the outcome was going to be - it would have been a Millwall win!
So we got back into it - took the lead - missed some sitters, but then again have Bart to thank for at least 3-outstanding saves to keep us in it at 1-1.
Yes I'm bothered we lost, but glad we didn't have to endure another 30-mons of extra time. We had our chances to win at 2-1 and make the game safe - but we didn't take them!
Not one for conspiracy theories about there being something wrong behind the scenes - just think our high tempo game has faded and we have lost the high tempo. In addition teams know who to stop us playing - don't play 2-up front and pack the midfiield.
Positives from last night - Bart made some good saves, Lallana looks to be back to his best and Rickie always looks like scoring! Not convinced about Tadanari listening - but blimey only been with us a couple of weeks and yet to make his mark. Chappers had a run out but I get the impression it was more of a training game for him to get some match fitness. We need his energy big time - we are slow and ciumbersome in midfield without him!
Que sera as the song goes...sounded like a belting 2nd half end to end stuff. A bit cold to be sat on a plastic seat at SMS...oh sorry did I say plastic?

How any true Saints fan moan about the position the club finds it's self in now, compared to just a few years ago is beyond me, we were teetering on the edge of the abyss, had nothing to fight for, nothing to support, and yet here we are are few years later, 2nd in the League, with a real chance of promotion, top 3 or 4 in home attendance, a good manager, supported by a good forward thinking board, with a strong squad of players, one of the best academies in the country and it's still not enough!.
Ok so we're out of the cup's, but we have no right just to win these games, winning is a bigger part of the game as loosing, we've had a 10 weeks flat patch out of how many in the last 150 odd? and you still moan!
And as for the pampey blue few on here, please, take a look closer to home because believe me you are in doggy doo up to your necks, actually it's just touching your ear lobes, they go cap in hand to the local council for short term funding, makes you wonder why nobody wants to snap up such a well run and well supported team,so much for the "pack the park" last week and failed to sale more than 14000 tickets, best supporters in the land, my @rse.

I doubt it though, they only seem to come on here when we lose.

Let's build a strong team. win the Championship and then proudly hold our own in the Premier League.
Personally mate I don't care how we get in the Premier League whether it be automatic or via the playoffs. Swansea went up via the playoffs and who would have thought they would be able to hold there own against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc..
In my opinion we already have a stong enough squad capable of winning this league. And even though we haven't played particularly well the last few weeks we have still played better football than teams already in the Premier League. For someone with over 50 years of being a Saints supporter you know sweet FA.

Just home from work still thinking about bit of the game: How good would it have been in Chung connected with his scissors kick...I love players that do the overhead athletic stuff.

Gain the winning mentality back and get Sharpe and Lambert firing on all cylinders ready for the skates at SMS and give them a good hiding.

So many negative comments on here, after promotion last year most Saints fans would have happily taken 2nd spot or would have been happy to be in the play offs at this stage; because we were top for so long I think it is worrying for Saints fans that we have slipped a bit but other teams were always going to get better as the season progressed and that they would put us under pressure; as is always the case in this league anyone can beat anyone on the day but I am sure that come Saturday Nigel will field a much stronger team and that we will beat Burnley.

I went to the game .. of course the result disappointing .. but irrelevant.

I have to say that Lee (Chung) looks a class player. His movement was superb .. however .. our vision/passing to him from midfield was shocking/absent. There were no balls "over the top" or "in behind" for him. Only when Ben Reeves came on did he look for some creative passing. We have to stop passing sideways. Hammond is very guilty of sideways passing. Chappers was on comback so no criticism of him. But really, when you have a player like Lee(Chung), you need intelligent passing into space. Chung spent all night making himself availible and got NO SERVICE. Our sideways passing is pedestrian. Maybe Morgan or Puncheon could be creative, on last nights showing, Ben Reeves was most creative, but we need some creative / penitrating passing,

For some time I have seen us passing sideways. So im hoping that we will get a bit more penetration either from somoene who can drop a shoulder and beat a player (La La or Punch) or pick a pass (Morgan, La La, Punch, Reeves?). We need service to Lambert / Sharp / Chung, and I have no doubt any of them will put the ball in the net.

Opposing Managers of mediocre teams have worked Saints out at home. The lack of a creative, driving central midfielder allows teams to get 10 behind the ball and they are then quite willing to watch the back four pass it amongst themselves before going back to Kelvin D (last night Bart) for the inevitable long ball. Creativity through the middle and decent delivery when full backs get over the halfway line is missing at the moment - sort this and I think Saints can still be genuine contenders for automatic promotion, otherwise it's the lottery of play offs!

I attended the game last night and haven't heard a mention of the fact in either the Echo of on Radio Solent that Millwall's winner was blatantly offside! That said when is Mr Adkins going to wake up to the fact that opposing teams have rumbled how we only ever pass the ball out from the keeper to the full/centre backs? We need to change our tactics it's too predictable Leicester caught us out 3 times in the first 10 minutes, we need to mix it up. We only change this to route 1 when we're losing! I like Nigel but is he tactically inept?

Tonight was disappointing but the linesman on the Itchen side of the ground was worse than any of our players, he was two yards behind play all night!!!. For their third goal Pheany was two yards offside with the linesman missing. To start saying LEE is rubbish after just over one hundred minutes on the pitch is talking out of your @rse. The poor lad can only point to where he wants the ball at this present time and he is not getting it. We could have VAN PERSIE playing for us up front but without the ball you would say he was fcuking cr@p.
We need to be as one on Saturday and if the bloke next to you starts moaning at the team tell him to sing his heart out for the boys and see if that approach will lift the team we are all suppose to support.

when saints signed him i thought what a great signing, and another ozzie who has and is playing premier league that be very good for us is tim cahill, who i heard is on the market and would be excellent in midfeild for us

so with lee, lambert , sharpy up front, and if we can get chappers back into some match fitness and form, and hopefully get our defensive deficences improved, then i can see us moving forward. Compare this team and to the one we had when we got relegated and minus 10 points, more positive, more ability, and more resourcefull. Always hurts to lose, but on balance I'm glad we're out of this competition. The abysmal turnout last night demonstrated there is relatively little supporter interest in it. More cup ties and possibly more replays would have been a problem down the road.

Of course it'll be a ripe few days for the moaners and that's fair enough - except of course that it doesn't actually help anyone or anything.

You can never be sure an event is good or bad until time has elapsed and the consequences become clear and I'd rather think this cup defeat will help more than it will hinder our season. Sometimes being miserable or positive is a matter of choice.

Ho ho ho and out of the cup you all go but can spend more time concentrating staying put in the play off zone and now Birmingham City are right on your shoulder in 3rd your really up against it.
Burnley's visit this weekend will be even more of a test than Millwall were last night and much in form and an away win looks on the cards and the slippery slope beckons and a decline in form for the scummers continues i'm afraid to say.
burnley to win 3-1
Pompey 1-0 win

..you must be freezing your b.lls off in Southampton.
The last three letters of your ident are the things I hate most about you at present and everything else! It was taters at SM last night, you are sadly probably right in what you say on this occassion, any chance you can cut us some slack, things are bad enough without your particular brand of BS. Laugh if it makes you happy, no problem with that, you don't seem to have much else going for you, can't help you there.

Were you there last night? Aaron Martin is doing OK, he is learning his trade and cannot have the blame for Saints poor form and lack of results put at his door.He will be a good centre half, my one concern is how one footed he is. We are starting to play football again, and should have won the game. Nigel says on the replay it showed that Ben Reeves goal was onside, I couldn't tell from where I sat last night, but if it was we just didn't get the rub of the green. Plusses from last night the movement of Lee, he looks like he could be a little gem, the continued return to form of Adam, Chaplow getting an hour under his belt. If Jos is going to be out long term then we still have the loan window open to us to bring in another centre half. We have slipped but are starting to get our form back, just need a little bit of luck to go our way.In the last three games we should have beaten Cardiff and Millwall and were the only team to play any foortbull at Brum, in a game that was only played for the benefit of Sky.
Seven points out of the next nine will put a gap between us and third. Birmingham have played a lot of games already thanks to their involvement in the Europa League, they should not be underestimated but I think fatigue will kick in at some point for them.

It's worrying that Adkins only now realises our defence makes a lot of mistakes. There were signs a couple of months ago, and if he doesn't correct it with a decent loan signing I can't see the results getting better.

You can never be sure an event is good or bad until time has elapsed and the consequences become clear and I'd rather think this cup defeat will help more than it will hinder our season. Sometimes being miserable or positive is a matter of choice.

I went to the game last night - wished I hadn't. Very very poor first half. Possibly worse than the Leicester match. Bart seems like he has no confidence left whatsoever, appaliing distribution and worst kicking I have ever seen from ANY goalkeeper. I pray Kelv doesn't get injured. Harding was beaten down the left ALL night, lost every challenge down by our corner flag. Richardson too slow, in fact, pretty much everyone out there lacked anything approaching enthusiasm for the game until they must have got a rocket from NA at half time. Bit better for periods in the second half, but all in all, very disappointing, we threw it away last night and there a few Saints players who need to have a look at themselves in the mirror today and ask if they really put in the effort required of them. A small plus is that young Reeves looked pretty good when he came on if there is anything positive to be gained from last night's fiasco. Think I also have to agree with the person who said there's too much tinkering with formation and line-up going on. Having said that though, when last night's team was announced, I thought it was a strong side that should have won convincingly. Sadly, I was wrong. Please can we put it right this coming weekend?

Quite agree with the comments about the service to our strikers, I have thought this for a long time, it is a miracle they have scored as many goals as they have. Surely the best pass was made by the Ref to Lee who raced through their defence from the halfway line and only just missed the top corner with his shot. This sideways passing by the defence, what's its purpose. It seems to me it gives the opposition time to marshal their defence. Anyway, they usually finish up hoofing it forward so why not let Bart do it. The way he played I felt he was on strict instructions to give the ball to his defenders, no wonder he was hesitant and in two minds on where to kick it.

Froze my nuts off last night and to be honest was relieved that there was no extra time!

There were positives to be taken from the game, namely Chappers got through unscathed. You could see he was nervous going into a challenge, it was natural in a way but he will overcome any fear. Ben Reeves did very well and should have had his goal allowed, offside my @rse! Once AL scored we were a different team but the first half an hour we were second best, we looked like the away side. Second half was better and when RL came on things improved even better, glad NA took Gully off as he was a red card waiting to happen!

My real concern is the defence, we seem to look so nervous. Bart made a few good saves but then ruined his copy book with p!ss poor kicking and distribution. A lot of the time we are our own worst enemy, poor passing and not closing the opposition down quickly enough. Martin looks out of his depth all of the time and both Harding and Richardson weren't much better. Why did 3 defenders go for the same player which led to their equiliser? Hopefully Jos will be back soon but the back four apart from Jose are a cause for worry.

Nobody likes losing, certainly not at home but at least we can concentrate on the most important goal of all and that is promotion. No doubt about it Saturdays team will be totally different from last night, NA must now surely know what his strongest eleven are. If not he's in the wroing job! But I strongly disagree with those calling for his head, its both knee-jerk and pathetic. But I can also understand the frustration, but at this stage a change in manager would be both counterproductive and premature. Lets not forget that for most at the beginning of the season mid-table consolidation was the aim!

There are certainly some in the side who need to man-up, especially in the tackle. Make your own minds up who they may be, but our mid-field needs to be quicker to the ball and more in the other teams faces. We seem to stand back and allow the other player far too much time to pick his pass, perhaps Chaplow will address that problem but it would be unwise to rely on just him.

Looking forward to Saturday and I'm hoping for a full house and warmer weather, I believe it was against Crystal Palace that we last won a league home game so a win is essential. If we fail to get the right result then I can only assume that there is definately something amiss in the dressing room, but I wont dwell on that!...... COYR's FOP!

I'm really disappointed with so much negativity for a team sitting second in the table. We had an unprecedented home run earlier in the season, and now we're experiencing the reverse side of this. It was never going to last forever. " Don't get too high when we win or too low when we lose". Sound familiar? A cup run would have been nice, but it didn't happen. Time to move on and focus on the league. The comments and suggestions I've read on here however make me ashamed to be a Saints fan. There are a lot of clueless critics and fickle fans out there. Come on at least try and get behind the team. We're possibly at full strength for Saturday so no excuses not to win. I still maintain that we have the strongest XI in this division when when they are all fit.

Agree with both of you. We need to be more direct going for goal We retain the ball on our own halfway line very well but it only gives the opposition time to pack their defence ready for when the ball do go forward.
I thought LEE (CHUNG ) PLAYED WELL AND SHOWED THAT HE WANTS THE BALL QUICKER. THAT RUN FROM THE HALFWAY LINE DESERVED A GOAL. Sideways passing is good to watch but we need to speed it up and go forward.

I think that the criticism given after this game is unfair. Yes recently we have slumped but there are encouraging signs. Tonight was about giving experience to young player and players coming back from injury. Chappers was never going to be on top form tonight after such a long period out, playing 60 minutes will get him closer to full fitness but I really don’t think we should expect him to make an instant impact and getting on his back will help no one. Barts showed signs of his skill tonight but not playing regularly has taken its toll and he does not have the same relationship with the defence which one can only have from playing regularly. As for the Lees, Barnard has also been out for a long time and the cup was a good opportunity for him to gain some more fitness and confidence but he will be back on the bench. Lee the new signing will take a while to bed into the team but appear to have the fight and tenacity which we need and can be a great impact player. When you look at our team there are a lot of positives; Lambert is back and has hit the ground running, Adam has rediscovered his skill and touch, puncheon has come back into the team looking keen and has something to prove. Sharp is a natural goal scorer and unlike the others he is used to this league so won’t take long to bed in. Most importantly we now have a fit bench which can make an impact, even if we don’t start with chappers we can bring him on for a bit of bite if we are lacking that. We have pace with lee and Steve. With Guly we have a proven goal scorer at this level and with competition he will have to fight and make sure he doesn’t disappear as he has been known to do. Recently we haven’t had options from the bench to make a difference. It is fair to say we look a bit weak at the back but having seen cork fill in there we do have some options and a loan signing is not out of the question. What i think is most important is that we make sure we give the team confidence from the sidelines, last night was a game to bring players back in and it allowed Fox to serve out his ridiculous ban. Let’s get behind them all and put the wheels back on the bus rather than chastise. COYR

Think I also have to agree with the person who said there's too much tinkering with formation and line-up going on. Having said that though, when last night's team was announced, I thought it was a strong side that should have won convincingly. Sadly, I was wrong. Please can we put it right this coming weekend?
harding was beat every time was he, well from where i was sat he was emence he took the ball and ran with it (not just punted it up the field with no control). he looked in control the whole game the inter play between him and lala was good where as with fox and lala there is nothing how often does fox get to the byline mmmmm never harding does alot and gets a good ball in the area fox does not. get off his back he is and always will be better than fox.

I did not go last night either, for some reason I support a great team that has supporters who support their team when the tough get's going...anyway there must of been a firedrill before the game started as many of you did not go back in afterwards to support your team...I did try to persuade your so call supporters to go back in as I am a Fire Marshall......lol PLAY UP POMPEY :O)

Harding is out of his depth at this level.
He gets beaten far to easily.Looks good going forward but leaves gaps at the back.As a full back his first job is to defend.A clean sheet means at the very worst you have a point. I think last few games have shown we are hopefully on our way back, I think a win is all we need to get the confidence back and we can then oush on.

Am I the only one who went last night who thought Feeney was at least 5 yards offside when he received the ball for the 3rd goal. Having said that we should have done enough to have stopped him scoring.
The Fans were furious last night - and with the disallowed goal ...

The Stewards were in action and had to restrain a number of fans ....

Yep I saw a good 5-10 people get out of their seat being held back and giving the Lino a bollocking.

I should have been a bit clearer with what I meant about Harding. He does look good going forwards and yes, there was some nice interplay between him and Lala, BUT as a defender, he got skinned far too many times. Probably not his best night in a Saints shirt. And yes, even from where I was sat toward the Chapel end of the Itchen, Feeney looked miles off side.

That's more of a statement than an opinion, and I feel the same way emotionally. However, I find keeping expectations realistic helps. A win doesn't mean promotion and a defeat isn't doesn't mean a mid table slump. We will get it together. The team need support though.

Not only Feeney about 5 yards offside, but the lino was 6 or 7 yards short of the line of play
(Fat to keep up with play).
