Bookmakers suspend betting on Harry for England job

David Bernstein David Bernstein

Bookmakers suspended betting on Harry Redknapp succeeding Fabio Capello as England manager after the Tottenham boss was acquitted of tax avoidance charges.

Redknapp is seen as the most likely choice of successor by the Football Association after Fabio Capello’s dramatic resignation yesterday.

FA chairman David Bernstein has previously said there was “a national desire” for the next England manager to be English and Redknapp’s success, especially with Spurs in recent years, makes him the outstanding domestic candidate.

I'm not sure Harry would want the job.
After all the stress he's probably been through with his recent trial why would he want the pressure of managing England, it must feel like your on trial constantly being the England manager the amount of attention and stick you get from the press. And why would he want to leave Tottenham?!? The best thing the FA can do is offer Harry the opportunity to manage England through the Euros without leaving Spurs. If he does a good job and enjoys it then he can have or if he has a shocking tournament then he can go back to Tottenham.

THe FA should appoint an interim manager(Stuart Pearce) to go into the Euros and then spend some time getting the right manager.
.
This should NOT be "Honest Arry".
.
Perhaps Pearce will do well in the Euros then he becomes the favourite .. or Huddink, Mourinio, Pardew,
.
Almost anybody BUT NOT Redknapp.
.

Anyone who expects 10% of player transfer fees in and out of a club won't want a job with no transfers!

I don't know if Harry was cheeky enough to expect 10% or if Pompey were stupid enough to pay him 10%. No wonder they are going out of business with such well educated businessmen at the helm.

Transfer % are a part of some managers "perks"/contract.
.
Allegedly HR also received a % of Jamies transfer to Liverpool from Bournemouth for £350k. ......... so these perks do go back some years at least since 1991

I’m not sure if my main reason for not wanting 'arry as England manager is the very real fact that he has only won (brought) 1 fa cup, or that he helped take us down (taking the job just to spite Milan after his little tiff and just fought with the dark lord for his whole time), he can be childish (did he not play a team of inexperienced kids in a league cup game just to spite the dark lord?) or the "great player of his generation" Gareth bale was not playing, not wanted and about to be loaned out with a view to a permanent deal until 'arry was forced to play him and then bales career took off and now 'arry's taking the credit.

So he hasn't won much, he's got a childish arrogant attitude, rumours of finical/betting miss-doing has followed him for years and he jumps when the mess he created gets to much and starts making a new mess elsewhere.

Or do I not like him cause I still think of him as a skate?

That is a total conflict of interest. If a manager wants a percentage of transfer fees how do you know he is making the decision to sell a player in the best interests of his club rather than just to line his own pocket?

To me that was the most shocking revolation about Harry during the trial, more so than tax evasion.
