NIGEL Adkins revealed why he chose not to name a keeper on his substitutes’ bench for the win against Burnley.
Bartosz Bialkowski normally assumes one of the five available reserve spots, in case first-choice Kelvin Davis needs to come off.
But the Saints boss opted to go without that particular safety blanket at the weekend, instead filling his bench entirely with outfield players.
Adkins explained he left Bialkowski out as he wanted as many positive options as possible at his disposal as the game wore on.
“I just wanted to be positive, so we didn’t have Bart on the bench,” said Adkins, who has made it clear on numerous occasions that he disagrees with the decision for Football League clubs to drop from seven to five subs this season.
“I normally have a goalkeeper on the bench, but I wanted to be positive, and we’ve got a very good positive result.”

It gives the manager more options, but also gives him the opportunity to introduce upcoming players to enjoy the first team experience. One sub. may have been OK for the Victorians, but 7 seems a lot better, but there should be no obligation to field seven if you don't want too.
Oh, for heaven's sake, I can't believe you're complaining about five subs. When I were a lad it was one. If the goalie was injured someone just popped on his shirt and it was accepted.
As fior seven? Pah!

Given the fact that Wet Spam are managed by Allardyce, a "manager" who turns a blind eye to thuggery and sends players out to deliberately clatter opposition goalkeepers, as was proven time and time again when he managed Bolton and Blackburn, I would suggest NA DOES name Bart as a substitute. It's one thing to have to use a substitute when an unexpected injury crops up, but not naming a goal keeper on the subs bench Tuesday, would be like waving a red rag at a bull. Also, given the fact that Allardyce is probably the biggest name manager in the NPC, his players will probably get a lot of leeway, when clattering Kelvin. NA's positivity against Burnley is to be applauded, but I think tomorrow is too important a game to take that risk.

I love the positivity of this and hope it's repeated against West Ham.
I would love a clip and story about Frazer Richardson's goal keeping... how much training has he been doing in goal?
The problem is Frazer is becoming one of the best players in the team. He is a rock at the back and plays the wing better than any other on the right and certainly has the best cross. If he had to go in goal we'd lose out on his on field skill too. Let's hope some thug from west ham doesn't put King Kelvin out early in the game with no Bart on the bench..
