Lambert: I'll be disappointed if I don't hit 30 league goals
8:36am Tuesday 10th April 2012 in Sport
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
RICKIE LAMBERT
RICKIE Lambert has revealed he will be “disappointed” if he doesn’t hit 30 Championship goals in his first ever season at that level.
The phenomenal Saints striker took his league tally to 26 with both goals in the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace yesterday.
Due to his cup strikes, Lambert has now reached the 30-goal milestone in all competitions for the second time in his extraordinary three-season Saints career.
In his debut term of 2009/10, Lambert belted 36 goals – of which 30 came in League One.
Now he is adamant he wants to repeat that feat at the level above.
“I know I’ve never set targets, but if I don’t get 30 in the league then I’ll be disappointed,” he said.

Don't care about you!!!
Why - because...
You'll never play us again!
Still celebrating the point you stole on Saturday...shame Bristol City had such a good come back yesterday...9-points from safety - now that would be a Great Escape!

Look at Grant Holt at Norwich like Lambo he has come up through the leagues. Although he his half the player Lambo is.
We need to keep our feet on the ground and keep focused on the task of getting to the Premier Division. That includes the idiots who ran on to the pitch last Saturday after Sharp scored the second goal and the Ref added on extra time.
Those fans cost us two points on Saturday.
To all fans wait until the game is finished before your celebrations go into full swing.

It's too early to talk about who we should sign for next season. It has also often been the ones we knew nothing about that have impressed us, so let na and nc pleasantly surprise us again.
Compare and contrast how we feel now with how we felt a couple of years ago, and cast your eyes down the M27.. They have definately cross the white'line's to League One!

Wouldn't mind seeing Jordan Rhodes Or Jay Rodriguez come to sms,Still need another CB IMO Maariappa could be ideal for us,In the centre of the park,Adam Clayton would be ideal,As for a keeper we are better off looking abroad could end up with someone like Vorm ! Lambert, Lee, Lallana, Puncheon and Chaplow are the only prem quality players we have IMO. Our defence will struggle if we don't get 2 new full-backs. From what I've seen Jos and Fonte make too many mistakes, if they can improve in the summer maybe they'll do ok.

Agree with this - this team has fought their way through 2 divisions and if we go up they on the whole deserve a shot at the Prem - There will be players that we need to move on for the sake of their careers too as they will not get game time in the prem but the core we should keep - add 3/4 decent additions, let others go that are surplus to requirements and have a crack at the prem next season with the lads who have done us so proud over the last couple of years.
Lets just get to the prem then we can all relax and look forward to what is to come! 2 wins and counting required - COYRAWM!!

His main issue is that he gets very frustrated (either with himself or with other players) very easily, and then his game goes down. And I agree that he needs to sort that out.
Yesterday at Palace, he was venting in the end with BS. They had a chance at doing a fast 1-2 which would put Guly in front of the goal but BS held the ball, went a few steps away from the goal and tried a shot that went wide.
We have two players who can play in attacking central midfield: Guly and Puncheon. Let them roam free behind the striker (and I mean one striker), feeding balls to the wingers and/or strikers, and making runs through channels. We're missing this sort of player and IMO, this is why sometimes we can't break down teams that park the bus at their end.

They all break up play and then get us moving forward, sideways or backwards, (tackle, intercept and pass). They are the continuity players who are essential to our strategy of retaining possession of the football.
Guly and Puncheon behind one striker don't fit into that pattern. If we adopted that approach our possession percentage would drop and our defence would be under pressure from counter attacks, plus we would only have one striker to put the ball in the net.
Guly and Puncheon don't play continuity football or chase back enough or close down enough to allow us to play like that. we would be vulnerable down the lines from the opposing full backs and wide mid fielders.
After all we are top of the league with central mid fielders who don't get forward very much and score goals. A number of teams play like that in the prem and hopefully that is where we are going.

You've been in the bottom 3 since Christmas...in the Championship.
All of your better players will be gone in the summer and when you drop down to league one you'll be hit with another points deduction as you'll still be in administration.
Then when you continue to cheat (which you probably will as it seems to be second nature for you now) you'll be wound up and gone for good.

when the game was over the training staff forced him to go back on the pitch to say thanks to the fans (he did not want to do it) i think his days are numbered. sorry to all guly followers and guly haters but this did not look good. come on guly sort out what ever problems you have we are together as on.
Centrebacks love to mark two strikers. If you give them only one, specially if he drops down the line from time to time, they just don't know what to do.
But hey, what isn't broken, don't fix it. If we are winning with the formation we have used so far, let's keep it.

What it means Shitelines, is when you're old enough to leave school, you have the option of being different from most of your neighbours, and going out to do a thing called 'work', which means you actually contribute something in exchange for some financial reward. Don't have to live your life on benefits like your uncle/brother/dad( all the same person probably for you, but just in case)

on a different note. did anyone that went yesterday notice that guly looked disintrested in the kick about before the game and when he came on he had a go at everyone on the pitch. when the game was over the training staff forced him to go back on the pitch to say thanks to the fans (he did not want to do it) i think his days are numbered. sorry to all guly followers and guly haters but this did not look good. come on guly sort out what ever problems you have we are together as on.

I think there will be a business opportunity for selling memorabilia to Saints fans once Shatton is closed.
I have an artisan lined up to make some little wall hanging cuckoo clocks - based on the familiar Swiss chalets idea, but actually featuring a miniature Shatton Park frontage.
You may think the market will be very limited, but the they will have a further unique feature. On the hour the cuckoo will pop out of the Shatton door and f@rt.

The gulf is not what it was. I put it down to too many imported players swelling the Prem, forcing some excellent players into the second tier for games. Even Pompey and Doncaster have some decent players about them.
I am not convinced the difference between the Premiership & Championship is as great as it once was. To me the standard in the Championship has gone up while the Premiership is not what it was as the Spanish Clubs have proved by their superiority over the premiership's top 4 -6 clubs. I always get the impression that the referees give all the decisions to Man U such as the penalties they are so often questionable . I think the thing that clubs like Norwich Swansea and Saints are proving is that they play as a team .....maybe they don't have the big names but the players play for one another and not themselves and this is the reason why they are succeeding. The future looks really good for Saints ,long may it continue!

As you are certain to get promoted now what are you expectations for next season. Is it more than just survival. Look at what Norwich QPR and Swansea have done. Can you do what Newcastle have done in 2 seasons. Do you think you have the financial clout to compete? Many clubs in the prem are in dangerous situations financially as they chase the dream is it worth it on the chance you may win something? Interested in you opinions. Thanks.

I hope enough money is invested in the team to enable us to consolidate in the Premier League and rustle a few feathers along the way, in a similar vain to Norwich and Swansea. I truly believe we only need one or two additions to do this. I certainly would not want us spending big money on so called superstars and paying them stupid money. Pompey tried that and in the end that is what has destroyed their club. Southampton have one of the best academies in the football world. Look at the players we have produced over the years right back to Shearer, the Wallace brothers. . .Mat la tiss, up to these last few years, Bale, Walcott, Oxlade Chaimberlin. . the promised land for us is to continue this development. . .and build a team around our future young stars many of whoom are just a year or two away from breaking into the first team. we do not need to spend big. . . We are growing big!! the club is being run properly. . . The infer structure is in place. . The five year plan is ahead of schedule and the ten year plan could well see the need for an even bigger stadium.

Some of these players i think should go :
Jaidi
Seabourne
(so obviously another cb is needed)
Hammond (harsh but we have cm's and i think we need another strong ball winner)
Barnard
Connely
..Possibly Davis if a good replacement is lined up.
But i trust NC and NC with signings as mentioned earlier or on another post it's important to still be a team and not just sign "prem exprience" on big wages.

Confucious, sorry, I never replied to you regarding how I (or rather my 'curry-suffering' lower end) coped with celebrating Monday's goals. I'm happy to report that all was fine; well just about.
However, I'm planning another curry on Wednesday evening and, on Thursday, I'll be flying from Gatwick to Porto and expect to be in need of the facilities soon after take off. From memory, the outbound flight crosses the coast somewhere over Southsea. I just hope the seatbelt sign goes off early enough for me to use that 'window of opportunity'. Cr4pping in the sea is so polluting, I like to think that cr4pping over Portsea Island is simply a public service.
