BRIGHTON boss Gus Poyet has become the second manager in a few days to describe Reading as the best team in the second tier.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock did it prior to his side’s Good Friday loss at the Royals, and now Poyet has said the same ahead of tonight’s crunch clash at The Amex He said: “We have a chance to test ourselves against the best team (in the Championship) and it will be good to see how the players perform against them.”

Poyet also praised Reading counterpart Brian McDermott’s dealings in the January transfer window – a part of the game the Uruguayan believes is becoming more and more crucial to success.

“Reading were there or thereabouts and you knew something could happen, but then in January they made a massive impact, especially with the signing of Jason Roberts,” he said.

“It looks like Brian knew exactly what was needed because the rest of the team was performing well, there was just something that was missing.

“He has got that now so credit to him as manager.

Recruitment nowadays is probably the most important part of football and he has done a fantastic job for Reading.”

Brighton were in the play-off zone after their January 2 win against Saints kickstarted a run of 12 unbeaten league games, but they have only won one of their last five outings.

I am a Brighton fan but i know the team at the top of the league are the best team in the Championship and fully deserve to be there,even i can work that one out and i am not even a manager,Reading ar second best at the moment and if we beat them and you beat them Saturday they could be just a playoff team,Gus says these things when he is preparing us for a defeat.I think you are allready Championship Champions.

Brighton can still make the Play Offs if they beat Reading and West Ham plus a couple of others. Then could join us in Premiership next year so they have a lot to play for. If West Ham lose at the weekend and we win we are there!!!

Of course we are but we have been frustrated by too many injuries and unbeleivable amount of sendings off.Gus does not know his best team,we have never had a settled team,he chops and changes,says its in consideration of the team we are playing.We Brighton fans keeo saying play two wide men at home Lua Lua and Buckly are fantastic players ,two front men.Loads of crosses and balls into the box,but he plays tippy tappy football with a labourious build up from defence.

Gus Poyet does the best Impersnation of a monkey in the whole football league,Didn't he say last year saints play like Dagenham & Redbridge or something like that ? He is a loud mouth nobody,Hasn't ever done anything in football,No prem titles or nothing ! Run along monkey boy, your total jealousy of all things Southampton is very evident, it was last season, it is this season.

You'd love to be in our position, if your team were top you would be the best in the league, however your not so you don't really matter.

You'd be better placed licking your knuckles (from all that dragging) and preparing your side for their encounter this evening.

I hate to defend Sour Gus but what he said was that WE are the best team this season, but Reading have been best team in the division over the last 3 months or so.

Seems that Poyet still has a chip on his shoulder after we beat them at the Withdean last season. He knows he can't slag off Saints by comparing them to Brighton this season so he is jumping on the bandwagon with Reading, how utterly pathetic. As far as I can see the only thing he has proved tonight is what we all knew, BRIGHTON aren't as good as Reading. Also I dunno what Warnock is on about, seem to remember beating them twice this season, looks like sour grapes all round.
