Saints are promoted Saints are promoted

Saints have been promoted to the Premier League.

Nigel Adkins and his team secured back-to-back promotions with a final day 4-0 hammering of Coventry at St Mary’s.

Even before the game there seemed little hope of anything other than the win Saints needed to ensure a return to the top flight which they left seven years ago and it certainly proved that way.

Any early nerves were settled by two goals in the space of three first half minutes as Billy Sharp and Jose Fonte put Saints 2-0 up.

Full of confidence and knowing that promotion was all but assured, Saints were rampant in the second half against an already relegated Sky Blues team.

Jos Hooiveld and Adam Lallana added further goals to confirm Saints’ finish in the second automatic promotion place behind champions Reading and ahead of West Ham, whose final day victory over Hull was of no consequence in the end.

What is there to say. After a few moments, we totally dominated the game. The score was a fair one and we are back in the Premier League. Now we can have fun discussing who stays and who comes in.
It's been a long season, but now we are where we belong.
Well done Saints and all of our fans. Proud to be a Southampton native!

We are Southampton we are Premier League!!!! I was a season ticket holder when we first got relegated, my kids were playing outside St Marys and on the local news. I swore we would be back when we were promoted back to the Premier, I now live in France and unfortunately times are tough and I could not afford to go, but, we are one happy family and hope to be able to make Man Utd at home next season!! Thankyou Nigel for accepting us and giving us our hope and dreams back. Thankyou to Marcus and Nicola. Thankyou to our fantastic team I for one have really enjoyed our last 3 seasons. COYR

A sweet end to a fantastic season.

So proud of the way Saints have performed over the entire campaign, always tried to play football, no playacting or long ball rubbish.

With two divisions between us and the filthy skates, the natural order has been restored.

Wish I was in Southampton for the party, but the beer is flowing here in Cork!

Here we go AGAIN!!!...No, One year earlier than the 5 year plan suggested. The 5th year was to be a consolidation in the Prem season. Now, we will attempt this in the 4th year. IS THAT BLOODY CLEAR NOW TO EVERYBODY???!!!

Well I too spent the week worrying, wondering how I would cope with play offs. But we did it as I think Nigel knew all along. Pity we didn't finish top - but hey let's look forward to the Prem where we belong. Well done everyone, really incredible and never thought we would last August. Amazing.
