Lambert 'overwhelmed' by promotion

Rickie Lambert said he was ‘overwhelmed’ by Saints’ promotion to the Premier League.

The striker crowned another marvellous campaign by being named the Daily Echo Player of the Season and snatching automatic promotion to the top flight.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for Lambert who looked like he wouldn’t ever play above League One level until Alan Pardew paid £1m to bring him to Saints where he has been phenomenal.

“I can’t believe it. I can’t describe this – it’s overwhelming,” said Lambert after Saints sealed promotion with a 4-0 win over Coventry.

“It’s been a long road for me personally.

“To get here means everything.”

Enjoy it Rickie - it's well deserved. You have been massive for us and you will rightly play at the highest level. Thanks for your phenomenal contribution to get our fantastic club back where it belongs. I only wish I could have been there today but at least I got it on TV.

The Saints family across the world is united tonight- we know who we are - I have been amazed at people texting me congratulating the Saints on this achievement - we have more real fans than the plastic pundits on Sky who wanted Big Spam and his Wet Spam Hoofers to win the league.

Has it really been three years since the agony of administration, points deductions and relegation.

Buying Lambert was one of the very first steps taken after we were rescued .. and just look what he's achieved.

A truly happy summer ahead !!

It doesn't just feel like promotion, it feels like we have won a major trophy.

You are without doupt the best English centre forward in this country.

I would love to see you considered to play for England.

I am also selfish enough to hope they ignore you.

(1) Because we want you fit and raring to go in the Prem.

(2)Don't want your reputation being tarnished by having to play with over-payed primadonas, who up to now couldn't care lest if they played or not.

All that said, if you are
picked,and you should be,I know England will have their best chance to win something in 50 years.
