JUSTIN Rose made a blistering start in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth today.

The Hampshire ace shot five-under par round the West Course to put himself one behind the early leaders.

Rose came within inches of moving into a tie for first place, only to see his birdie putt at the last stop just short.

The former North Hants member was four-under by the turn, birdieing two, four, five and seven.

He picked up another shot at the par three tenth, before giving one back immediately at the next hole.

But a birdie three at 16 took him to five-under once again.

Rose, who is grouped with defending champion Luke Donald and Alvaro Quiros, is due to start his second round at 8.15am tomorrow.
