How far are we from a time when absolutely everything in football is sponsored by either online gambling companies or 'financial services providers' ie glorified loan sharks? It's none too pretty.

It's a free market - anyone can apply to be the sponsor of this competition.

Can you imagine of Durex got it...? :)

Is there a finance company called '38 Double D'?

I'd be happy to enter the 38 Double D Cup.

Yes, but if it was called the 38 Double D Cup, they could add a lid, as per the FA Cup.

Then, as the winning captain collected it and raised it slightly awkwardly into the air, Motty could utter those immortal words:

'Here comes the captain. He has hold of the 38 Double D Cup. He lifts ...... and separates.'

It's in great shape is it?? REALLY?? The last comment in this item is really saying that teams put out the reserves and youngsters .. or to put it another way they dont care if they get knocked out.

Its potentially offers a trip to Wembley and the chance for the other clubs to win a trophy, but the sad fact is it is a trophy that has little importance as most top clubs are far more interested in Premieship income and survival, so they wont risk players getting injured.

Its all about money of course. Even the FA Cup has lost some gloss. When Man Utds opted out of the FA cup back in 1999 the writing was on the wall. Since then its very much a fans trophy .. its' importance to clubs has diminished

I remember the days when the League Cup built up its credibility until it was a truly major trophy back in the '70s and '80s. These days it's about as important as the Daily Mail 5 a side used to be (except for the year that Saints won it of course).

I love it when Saints win trophies and Id love to win it. But from a club perspective it won't be a priority.

Absolutely right. However, in referrence to the other thread, when the likes of Chelsea and co. are struggling to meet their bills and looking for a quick buck, they'll be glad of a decent run in the COCup.

Furthermore, to labour my previous ...... um ..... 'points', this competition would certainly be in great shape if it was called the 38 Double D Cup.

Okay, sorry, everyone, I'll stop now.

It would be nice to win it, to put alongside those other Cups that we never seem to get a sight of, did we get the Championship Runners-up Trophy? If so what does it look like?

I think the are even trying to opt out of the Paint Pot, because they think it is soiled goods after we won it.

I agree, wholeheartedly.
But while I’m here I’d also like thank my sponsors.

Mush was dressed by Paul Smith, fed by McDonalds, hairstyle by Trevor Mitchell, manicured and massaged by Singapore Suzie (Don’t tell Mrs Mush)
