Shane Warne has thanked Hampshire for naming the Ageas Bowl's West Stand after him.
The East Stand has been named after the late Colin- Ingleby Mackenzie, another charismatic former Hampshire captain, who led the county to the 1961 County Championship.
The stands were officially named today.
Warne, Hampshire's captain from 2004-07, is also at The Ageas Bowl today to commentate on the first one-day international between England and the West Indies.
He used the social network site Twitter to say: "Thanks to everyone at Hampshire, loved my 8 years I feel v proud and honoured to have a stand named after me along with C Ingleby-Mackenzie...
"...Another huge thanks to the public and the board who voted for the stand to be named after me,means a lot as an Australian...
"...Glad you appreciated the time, effort & dedication we put in to make the club successful. A special thanks to Rod Bransgrove."

For an overseas player, 8 years is a very long time, most only stay for one, but even so Warne is one of the game's most special talents. As a former Hampshire member it was an honour to see him in person for several of those glorious years, and he fully deserves it. But it was definitely more than three years :)
So he played cricket for hampshire between 2004 and 2007 and then got a stand named after him at the rose bowl?
is that a long time in cricket or what?
