Saints star hits out after move collapses

RYAN DICKSON (right of picture) RYAN DICKSON (right of picture)

FORGOTTEN Saint Ryan Dickson is “absolutely miffed” after missing out on a move to Crawley Town.

The newly-promoted League One side had been hoping to bring the out-of-favour left back to Broadfield Stadium this summer.

However, that would have likely meant a substantial pay cut for the 25-year-old.

In order to facilitate the move, Dickson, right of picture, had hoped to come to a settlement on the remainder of his St Mary’s contract, which has a year left to run.

But he could not reach an agreement with Saints.

Dickson, who is understood to have received wage increases as a result of the club’s promotions to the Championship and then the Premier League, now appears to be preparing to ride out the remaining year of his deal.

The defender has taken to social networking site Twitter to express his frustration at not getting a move.

He tweeted: “A business decision? Absolutely miffed! Looks like I’m stuck still watching premiership football for the season could be worse! Crazy”.

In response to a message from his former Brentford teammate, goalkeeper Ben Hamer, Dickson then added: “cant beat playing though mate frustrated ant the word! Just can't understand not wanted so let me play else where!”

I presume he wants a settlement on his years wages the greedy bar steward. If he is that keen to move on and play frequently surely he should just leave and makedo with the wages Crawley are going to pay him.

this was on twitter days ago!!! Crawley are happy to pay him what he and they think he is worth and he wants to go, so why does he think Saints owe him anything. He has a contract and he wants to break it but wants his present employer to compensate him for leaving!!! Some footballers need to get in the real world!!

Happy summer solstice, Echo readers. It's a shame we're no longer in touch with our pagan traditions. I went to school in Salisbury and every year throughout my youth on June 21st the police would gather in town and beat the sh!t out of Levellers fans. It was a wonderful sight and even the memory of it brings a glow to my heart.

Does that sort of thing still happen anywhere?

Bigrich1980 says...

takes the p*ss - He is frustrated at not playing, well if he was that frustrated he would take the lower wages. However, what he wants is to take the lower wages but get saints to pay him off early so he gets even more money. That is why saints havent agreed to it, if he was that desperate to play then he would accept crawley offer.

Sounds more like a greedy agent wanting his cake and eating it, we're not selling him without his consent, he actively wants first team football, which compared to the likes of Michael Owen is to be admired, but every player has their own level, his is obviously Championship/1st Division, but coz of a bizarre contract he's got a clause that gives him a ton of dosh if we get to the promised land, something we probably weren't banking on doing as quickly as we have, so we're lumbered with an extended squad of players that got us this far, but would never get a comparable contract at any other premier league club, except the newly promoted ones who have the same problem as us.

He obviously hasn't had the will power, determination and ambition to break into the first team. I don’t know what happens behind the scenes but I’m sure if he had the aforementioned we’d have maybe seen a lot more of him. Question is, do we need people like this on our journey.

For example who of us that are Saints fans really cares about Rooney and the Echo going on and on about Chamberlain the guy couldn't get away from us quick enough and had he waited 1 year he'd have got the Premier League football he craved and probably much more 1st team football so come on Echo just focus on LOCAL sport please not Rooney etc

What really disgusts me is that even at Crawley he would be earning more money per week than the majority of all fans that attend football matches and pay his and other footballer's wages.

Why do some ppl expect a player who comes from God knows where to suddenly become Saints until they die.
Some players are like that and that is a blessing but the minute they complain about a situation at the club they are scum! Whats that about?

I am Saints until I die but then I am a fan not a player from Saltash in Cornwall or Bogota Columbia.

I remember when we were deep in administration and my friend was working at the club as a chef and went to London for a culinary competition and won it.
The Echo did a story and then a load of haters started writing in about concentrating on the football. However at that time the banqueting was the only profit making part of the club.

So my message is stop being a hater. Well save it for Nugent.

Have to agree with this and would also ask the above posters to take a long hard look at themselves and ask the question - would I do the same in his situation?

Ryan has been a decent servant for the club in our meteoric rise and despite what is being said, has mainly kept his own counsel.

anyone heard a rumor that Anderes Svensson might be returning?
Says in the Sun he would like to return. At 35/36, personally, I don't think that is a good idea. Either a made up story by Sun journalists or Anders trying to do a James Beattie and jump aboard the bus. I can't think Nigel would be interested in somebody as old as Anders. That's not his style in the transfer market.

Good to hear that an apology was forthcoming. Wise move.

I have considered this overnight.
In the end the terms of a contract must be honoured.

If the club wants to break the contract they must buy him out. No question.

If the player wants to break the contract then the same applies, either the player (or more likely another club) should compensate Saints. This would apply if Saints wanted to keep him.

If Saints don't want him and he wants to join another club then the contract can be cancelled by mutual consent.

It appears to me that the club has dumped him. Fair enough, so they should compensate him. The club is also perfectly within its rights to try to get some money back. The player is perfectly within his rights to stay put and claim the pay due to him. He knows however that that would mean a year of sweeping up the changing rooms and setting up the goalposts at the training ground. Thats up to him.

If he has found a club that wants him the it's a business decision for NC. NC is entitled to recieve payment for a contracted asset being sold and transferred. Thats how the whole system works. NC can also say "you are free to go" and we can tear up the contract by mutual consent. I think this is what has happened. The player has then said no because he wants a pay off. If he wants a pay off then NC has to weigh up how much his wages are compared to a pay off. The pay off terms would be specified in the original contract.

If this isn't sorted by mutual consent then he will rot for a season but be very well paid. I doubt Crawley will stump up to buy out the contract. So the player will lose a year of playing and being "in the shop window".

Simple.

I'm getting bored with this. Where's my cat when I need him?

Steve Davis? Now that is ..... er ..... interesting!

Mind you, as well as Steve Davis, snooker genius, there's a lot of others about, including the one who started his career at Saints and retired about 5 years ago.

I heard that, owing to the Dickson deal falling through, 'Claw-ley' Town were interested.

Apparently, they see him as the 'purrfect' alternative at left back.

Although, the cat's adaptability suggests he might play up front because they still need a replacement for ........ Matt 'Tabbies'.

Trouble is, it may be difficult for him to get out of his current contract because, in the small print, there is, of course, no release 'claws'.

On the one I read it gave his career summary in terms of games as being with Rangers. But the in the first paragraph of his career description said he played for Southampton and NI.

Just checked it out and it now reads Rangers and NI. It has been changed since my original post.

Originally I saw it in the Sun on line via the link on the BBC football page, and then I checked Wikipedia.

Interesting. An on/off deal perhaps? In the Sun it said he would be Saints highest paid player.

I have not looked at the odds, but it would be a shame if they price it out of interest for punters. Travel has a huge negative factor, plenty of good European horses have under-performed in the Melbourne Cup

Indeed. This next chapter should be great fun as they round on each other and bicker. I'm waiting to find out how many pledges they got and how many actually stump up the hard cash. Makes an interesting distraction from getting ready for a premier league campaign :)

Maybe that's the problem. Maybe he was being lined up and, in a bid to get a higher salary for his client, his agent went to The Sun and NC pulled out. Will be interesting to see what happens.
