Rangers' withdrawl from Markus Liebherr Memorial Trophy not their decision

Tournament change decision not made by Rangers Tournament change decision not made by Rangers

RANGERS have confirmed that it was not their decision to be removed from the Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup.

Saints announced on Tuesday night that Anderlecht were replacing the troubled Scottish giants in the three-team pre-season tournament, which also features Arsenal.

A statement released by Rangers yesterday said: “Southampton informed us last night (Tuesday) they could no longer offer us a place at the tournament.

“A statement on their website then revealed Anderlecht were replacing us.”

Saints had said the reason for the change in teams was “due to the well-publicised circumstances surrounding the Scottish side.”

They also added that the decision had “not been made lightly”

and was “reached with the integrity of the competition in mind.”

Rangers, who have reformed as a ‘newco’ following the liquidation of the original company earlier this month, are set to be kicked out of the Scottish Premier League.

They have also seen a number of key first-team players attempt to walk away from the club by objecting to their contracts being transferred.

Only a few days ago, though, Rangers had been privately indicating they did not expect the issues at the club to have any effect on their participation in the Memorial Cup.

This incident has smacks of Cortese all over it -the transfer of that Rangers guy Saints were sniffing around probably didn't come through so gnarly Nicola drop kicks his dummy in usual spiteful style.

Not sure that's true - pure conjecture but it's a stereotypical trait of behaviour of a leader devoid of empathy - the way they wanted to appoint Adkins & stitch Scunny (luckily Nigel had more integrity). I find it bizarre how a man with alleged millions in the bank refuses to pay rent to a family lending you their home. How do you repay them? By trashing all the furniture. Not the behaviour of a gentleman or a good ambassador. How do you get so unpopular and nasty? Playing god so much they look down on working classes or develop such arrogance and disdain in the social circles of money lenders since they are generally complete t*ssers. Bunch of bankers I suppose. Look at the history of the Rothschilds, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Rockefellas and more recently this week, Barclays Bank. Law unto themselves and detached from reality and never fly straight, playing god without little empathy for real people. I hope that Barclays boss suffers. Arrogant b*stard!

I'm still trying to work out what he was motoring on about and what it has to do with the red and white army.

Terry_Nutkins, I think you'll find it's more likely that Saints ditched Rangers from the Cup because Rangers are unlikely to have a team of enough quality to test Saints as they want to be tested.

If Rangers are going to be playing in Div 1, and they're not going to have 8 of their first team players, it would be equivalent to inviting a League 1 team into a competition against two prem teams - no one's going to benefit (in a footballing sense) from that.

It's not spiteful, it's for footballing reasons.

Who cares? If I was in charge I'd have done the same. Who's going to pay £25 to watch the Rangers youth team? Having Anderlecht is a much better, more secure idea.

That Rangers are not worthy.
I have no idea what the banks have to do with this!

You appear to have a few issues.

Bet your feeling better now, now you've got that off your chest.
You sound like a right barrel of laughs.

Please don't get a season ticket in the Chapple, we have got more than our fair share of moaners already.

What a synical negative view. I guess more a reflection on the way you see life than on life itself!

NC is a top chairman with his head screwed on the right way even though though he might not make friends all day every day. Imagine we were run by idiots like those who have trashed Rangers and Poopey. NC is a Saint!

Dumping Rangers is a perfectly sensible football/business decision. Simples, the end.

NC did the sensible thing. It is unlikely that Rangers could provide us with decent opposition or any opposition at all. Faced with the very real possibility of Rangers having to pull out, Nicola found us a decent replacement.

I told you all when this game was announced.

Get the money up front. Coz they will default just as they have done to every other football club this year.

Cortese obviously reads my posts. Sensible guy.

Oh, for the record, Cortese was a banker. May be the reason why he had so little empathy. Like these higher level banker f*ckers on the news running rings around politicians. It's a side issue. Scottish league is shyte! Better fixture replacing it.

Over & out.
