Shahid Afridi is now a doubt for Hampshire's entire Friends Life t20 campaign.
The Pakistan star has already missed the first half of the Royals' South Group itinerary.
And today he has told The Express Tribune he is unlikely to return at all.
He said: "I am likely to miss the entire season.
“A few issues may force me to opt out.”
Afridi helped inspire Hampshire to the t20 semi-finals last season.
But having won their last two t20 games, the Royals are confident of beating anyone, even without their star man.
Hampshire have named the following squad for tomorrow night's game against Essex at Chelmsford: Adams, Vince, Katich, McKenzie, Ervine, Maxwell, Dawson, Mascarenhas, Wood, Bates, Briggs, Kabir Ali, Riazuddin
