Saints' £2m screen test
7:20am Friday 6th July 2012 in Sport
By Adam Leitch, Chief Sports Writer
NIGEL ADKINS
Saints are already counting the Premier League cash after being handed four live TV dates inside the first three months of the season.
The club will bank just shy of £2m from the facility fees for those games alone, with plenty more money rolling into their coffers.
Nigel Adkins’ men start their season at champions Manchester City and, unsurprisingly, that game has been selected for live viewing in Sky Sports’ prime 4pm slot on Sunday, August 19.
Also live on Sky within the first few weeks of the season is the St Mary’s clash with Manchester United, which now takes place on Sunday, September 2, also with a 4pm kick-off time.
For full story and more Saints news, don't miss today's Daily Echo.

Remember that chant from the Coventry game...
Hopefully not going to be the case this season. A nice 3 points away to City would be a good start...

Why do I have a sinking feeling that this is the "up" section of a roller coaster that will have a nasty "down" beyond the horizon? Farewell, well-run club that can support its own future. Hello casino.
The "Up" section of the roller coaster is only just beginning. This is probably the best that the club has been run in a very long time. The Chief Exec is probably one of the most astute business men currently sitting in a Directors box anywhere in this country.
The Manager is a grass roots man manager and expert coach. He may have only just appeared on the bigger radar but he will be a major name in less than a year.
This club can undoubtedly support its own future, hence the recent news of strategically building the academy to supply new talent. Hence the widening of our international scouting reach, hence or tapping of talent form as far way as Japan.
The current focus on TV coverage is because ther is no other news worthy of reporting. Player purchase at Saints is conducted better than anywhere I have seen in recnet years. We play it close to our chest, very few leaks have been seen and our purchases are careful, and so far succesful.
The fact that we are up agaist the champions for our first match seems to be construed, by some, as the first step in a downward spiral. What complete and utter rubbish.
The number of people who have pints half empty is astonishing when viewed against the backdrop of excellent management we have demonstrated.
Cheer up for ****s sake !!

However, this is the Premier League!! We are financially managed by a shallow purse and a clenched fist. I think we miss out on some players because we don't pay over the top wages.
But in this league we can't wait until the new year to sign new players and expect to survive.
I hope we see three or four in soon.

agree with everthing said though, if we had gone out and spent £25mill-£50mill already people would be moaning about that, its not what you spend that counts its who you get! tad lee for free! is that enough money spent?
whilst our fellow promoted teams have spent money, i cant see that any of the players either have brought would be good enough for us. they are both looking just to survive this season, we are and must be looking to improve and move up the league! we must only spend money when right to do so, we dont need to panic buy any old jouneyman player that wont fit in with the saints way. the squad we have needs to be strengthened in certain areas yes but i am sure nigel and nicola know this and deals are being thrashed out.
is this the `i remember watching saints the season we finished 2nd in the top flight` section?

This forum is akin to a low cost airline with superior and lesser people all in a scramble on the same ticket. We need a British Airways style forum which offers exclusive access up front to Gold Card (ie season ticket) holders and back-of-the-plane access for the hoi polloi and the great unwashed.
Of course the plebeian will be annoyed at first, but they will soon adjust - and indeed eventually get a lot of emotional security and comfort from the natural "officer/other ranks" order of things being restored.
It would be nice too if the club provided separate turnstiles for us season ticket holders to enter the stadium - and priority on exit (eg an announcement at the end saying "Season ticket holders may leave now - all other supporters please wait until you are called.")
It's not a popular view with the masses, but if we had kept the lower order loadsamoney Harry Enfield types out of the city trading floors and still had the banks run by gentlemen, we wouldn't have the mess we have today.

TV money is nice to add to the coffers but Nicola will apply the same shrewd Arsenal logic in building this club up carefully for the long term. You will always be judged on your track record and I find it hard to find any cracks in the current regime, so why should I start panicking now?
I consider myself an optimist although my glass is often half empty, I put that down to a thirst for life and lager.
