Spurs mull Butland bid
10:14am Friday 6th July 2012 in Sport
Jack Butland
Tottenham are reportedly considering making a £7m offer for Saints target Jack Butland.
Saints had a £6m offer turned down by Birmingham for the 19-year-old keeper, who was part of England Euro 2012 squad.
Spurs are rumoured to be prepared to agree to a deal that will see Butland loaned back to Birmingham for next season.
Butland does not wish to leave the Blues unless he is guaranteed first team football, which he will get at St Andrews next season.

While we play a different style these days based on pass and move it is asking an awful lot of our squad to compete against the likes of City Utd and their mega stars but who am I to say?

although he obviously has talent.
As I have said on a recent posting the lack of transfer news
is worrying and hope something
happens soon.We are going to struggle in defence and mid
field unless new players are
brought in.

Plenty of other options around and I'm sure NA&NC are on the case.

The talk about Spurs sounds like press puff. Someone is trying to drive up the price. Agents, the club, someone with a vested interest no doubt.
As I've said before, this is an untested keeper, highly thought of but inexperienced. six or seven million is a serious bid and they were unwise to reject it.
I doubt that he is "demanding first team football". I expect he's just looking for the best chance to get regular football at a high level. Nothing wrong in that. But Birmingham want to get the best price so they will pump up these stories as much as they can.
I expect he will move, probably not to us, and probably not to Spurs either.
We will move on. We will find somebody else. And Butland will look back at the time when he nearly joined the great Southampton FC.
