Southampton reach deal over transfer of Dutch defender Alexander Büttner from Vitesse
1:50pm Friday 6th July 2012 in Sport
By Dan Kerins, Digital Editor
Alexander Büttner
Vitesse Arnhem have said they have reached an agreement with Saints over the transfer of left back Alexander Büttner.
The Dutch club posted a statement on their website this afternoon.
The Eredivise side claim Saints today submitted an improved offer for the left back, meeting Vitesse's evaluation of the 23-year-old.
It is understood Büttner is now trying to sort out personal terms with Saints before sealing the move.
Fulham, QPR and Werder Bremen have also been tracking the player.
Buttner has made his name with the Eredivisie outfit at left back, even making the provisional Netherlands squad for Euro 2012.
But he has also played as a winger for Vitesse, while he came through the ranks at Ajax as a more central attacking player.
Vitesse have been resigned to losing the player this summer, with Buttner having just one year left on his current contract.
He has been allowed to travel to England to visit interested clubs, including Fulham and QPR as well as Saints.
German side Werder Bremen are also interested, but Buttner has made it clear from the start that St Mary’s is his choice.

There are 14 out of 23 spots complete in my mind. With 7 additions needed over the next three season to have a team assured of retaining its place in the premier league every season.
I'd also keep Chaplow, Butterfield and De Ridder until better players are found.
I'd listen to serious offers for everyone else.
Right side of midfield, a central defender, 'keeper and a central midfielder are musts for the start of this season.
Good to see the four kids join the first team squad, they'll hopefully fill a few of the slots over the next few seasons.

We have Morgan, Jack and RC challenging for centre midfield, Need a strong tackling playmaker for centre midfield imo. Cover for at least 1 centre back and a second keeper. As a bare minimum.

The options this presents for Nigel are enormous. The "Southampton style" is taking shape very nicely indeed.
Now be patient everyone... another midfielder and a goalkeeper will be under the tree when we wake up in the morning.
Might not be tomorrow morning though.. so have patience !!
NC and NA are on the case. You know its going to be good.
The pint is not just half full, its almost brimming over.
The fat billionaires will be quaking in their GulfStreams when they realise they have to play us. Can't wait. That Sheikh Yer bouti at Man City has lots to worry about. Your boys are going to be drubbed and the whole world will see it on TV. Live
Big scalps are going to be taken next season. We are going to be sensational. They will need to widen the M3 to cope with the multitudes coming to see us. Extra runways will be laid at Eastleigh airport as the overseas clubs come to the shrine of St Nigel to worship. That overpaid bunch of has-beens on MOTD are going to have to find new vocabulary to express their awe of our skill and devastating results.
Smile d*mn you smile !!!!!

As for your thoughts, Confucious, surely, that would leave IRRESISTIBLE on the bench and I thought he had only agreed to sign if guarenteed to start every match.
I just hope Man City sign Sneezy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Happy, Bashful and Grumpy before the 19th of August.
Anyway, what ever happened to that guy in Scotland called INVINSIBLE? He seemed to score a few.

You can only sit back and admire the way the club is building for the future whilst taking care of the present day. Iwas miffed when my seat went up by so much but, it does not seem quite so painfull now and come the season K O . N C and N A with a couple of bits of more magic could have completely wiped the pain away altogether.
Cant wait for next SATURDAY 'S 5 pm kick off. Just hope there are THOUSANDS like me that feel they OWE IT TO MARKUS TO BE THERE.

I've heard from a Dutch work colleague that Buttner isn't a particularly good player. He was part of the Ajax youth squad, but didn't do too well, so they got rid of him, but that might of all changed, and from looking at his stats he scored about 5 goals last season, half of what he has scored in his career total. But am gonna stay optimistic about him, and hope he lives up to his expectations at Saints.
