Buttner deal looks dead in the water
Alexander Buttner’s on-off move to Saints could be about to finally collapse.
The 23-year-old left back appeared all set for a switch to St Mary’s a few weeks ago but the transfer hit a stumbling block after a third party claimed they were owed a percentage of the fee, believed to be around £3m.
That has proved a massive stumbling block and it appears from the words of Buttner’s representative that Saints may have finally lost interest, though it could yet be a final bid to try and get them to act for fear of losing a player they so obviously coveted. Buttner, pictured right, was left out of Vitesse Arnhem’s team photo, so certain were his club that he was on the move.
They have signed a replacement and so are keen to sell Buttner but have had to allow him to rejoin their squad, albeit he is training with the reserves. Fulham were also interested in Buttner but the player made it clear he favoured a move to St Mary’s.
The Cottagers may now renew their interest, with German side Hannover also considering a move.
Buttner’s representative, Alexander Busac, said: “At the end, we didn’t come to a deal with Southampton and Vitesse.
“We look ahead and happily there is a lot of interest.
“Hannover and Fulham are very serious.
“Two French clubs have confirmed by mail they are looking to sign Buttner, but haven’t made a bid. Within the next days they will contact Vitesse.”
The potential collapse of the Buttner deal means Nigel Adkins will have to weigh up whether to head into the transfer market for another left back.
Adkins already has last summer’s £1.8m signing Danny Fox at left back, with Sheffield Wednesday linked Dan Harding and young Luke Shaw as cover, while Ryan Dickson is also still on the club’s wage bill.
However, Adkins had two experienced right backs in Frazer Richardson and Danny Butterfield but still moved to add Nathaniel Clyne to the squad.
Buttner made his name with Eredivisie outfit Vitesse at left back but has also played as a winger for the club and at right back, while he came through the ranks at Ajax as a more central attacking player.
The Doetinchem-born player made 107 appearances for Vitesse after making his debut in 2007/08, scoring ten goals in the process, and was part of the provisional Dutch squad for Euro 2012.

Only rated 69 on FIFA 12 and down as a Left Winger. Move on.
Although I think it's probably at the point where it's safe to class this as old news and move on. I hope saints manage to land Lens, he looks fantastic and is 76 on FIFA 12.

The Buttner deal is due to aforementioned previously undisclosed third-party demands (not in our control) and the valuation of Dann is clearly Blackburn's, again out of our control. Blackburn slapped that price down, not Nigel Adkins.
Much as i respect what Adkins has achieved at SFC, I still do not believe he cuts it at Premiership level (in terms of negotiating clout). The Buttner deal is a fiasco, as with the young Brum goalkeeper. Now the Dann issue seems to have suddenly jumped to a £6M+ deal. Ludicrous!
Not sure fiasco is a word I would use, just my opinion though....

I bet you Fulham don't get him either.

Egomaniac wrote:How is it Adkins fault that the Buttner deal is a fiasco? And if Blackburn want to put an unrealistic valuation on Dann, maybe it's got something to do with the fact that they want to keep him or get as much as possible for him? Honestly, some of you lot can't wait to stick the boot in on those you should be giving your support to.

Dann valuation was known before we made an enquiry. It is the buyout clause in his contract and the amount that Blackburn paid Birmingham for him.
Brum goalie is valued at £6m by Brum and having seen him play for GB it seems a true valuation by most of the country except you.
You are totally completely and utterly right, Nigel can not be trusted to negotiate contracts.
That is why he doesn't.
We have a dedicated department for that, Nigel tells them who he wants, they go and get him.
Feel free to post more rubbish any time you like .
Glad to see you respect him for his achievements and I suppose you are a Saints supporter, just a little ill informed.

NC won't be held to ranson buy some money grabbing 3rd party.
If the player really wanted to come as he stated and wasn't just playing lip service to the fans here, then he himself should have got involved to end any involvment by others.
