The medal ceremony is taking place now. King, Trott and Rowsell step onto the podium and salute the crowd. King is the first to receive her gold medal, followed by Trott and then Rowsell. King, who is unable to contain a beaming smile, sings the national anthem proudly, before they receive an enormous ovation from the fans in the velodrome.

That was an amazing performance from the British girls. They finished in a time of 3mins 14.051secs. They nearly caught the Americans by the end of the race. There are tremendous scenes in the velodrome, as King, Trott and Rowsell celebrate Olympic gold.

New Zealand win that one. Now it's the bronze medal ride between Australia and Canada.

We've got the fifth and sixth-placed race between Netherlands and New Zealand right now. The Bronze medal contest will follow, then it's the turn of the British girls.

The time is 3mins 14.682secs - nearly a second better than the time they posted yesterday. It's the fifth ride in a row that this trio have posted a new world record. Great Britain will now face USA for the gold medal in just over an hour.

Canada are putting up a decent fight, but it won't be enough. At 2,000m, the GB girls are 1.752 seconds ahead. They could smash the world record.

Netherlands beat Germany in heat one. New Zealand beat Belarus in heat two. Those teams, along with the two losers in the USA v Australia and Great Britain v Canada races, will be ranked according to their times. The best two will then ride off against each other for the bronze medal.

Good afternoon sports fans, and welcome to our live blog covering Hamble track cyclist Dani King’s pursuit (get it?!) of Olympic gold.

It’s been quite a day for Team GB so far, with two more gold medals in the rowing, Jessica Ennis almost certain to add another later on when the heptathlon comes to a conclusion, and Mo Farah going for the 10,000m title tonight.

But, for now, the attention turns to the Olympic Park velodrome, where the British trio of Dani, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell are hot favourites to win the women’s team pursuit. And for good reason. The double world champions set a new world record time in qualifying, as they finished nearly four seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.

After yesterday’s timed laps, we now enter the head-to-head stages. Canada, who were fourth in qualifying, will be GB’s opponents in the semi-finals, while United States face Australia for a place in the gold medal ride.

The session starts at 4.11pm, with two classification races due before the top four teams battle it out. The finals then begin at 5.42pm. So sit back and enjoy the ride…
