SOUTHAMPTON hockey player Alex Danson insists Britain will not be pushing the panic button any time soon, despite falling to their second successive defeat at London 2012.

Before their clash with Holland at the Riverbank Arena yesterday the Brits knew that their passage through to the semi-finals had already been secured after Japan beat China on Monday afternoon.

That piece of good news appeared to rub off on the home favourites in the early stages as Crista Cullen fired them into a first-half lead against the Dutch.

But not for nothing are the Netherlands the top-ranked side in the world and their stirring second-half comeback earned them a 2-1 win and means they top the group.

Danson and co have to make do therefore with second but the 27-year-old is adamant that, despite their two successive defeats, she and her teammates are on the right lines to achieve their dream of gold in London.

“We are over the moon that the front end of the tournament has got us through to the semi-finals,” she said. “We will bag up and forget all of that now and focus on what is to come.

“We are disappointed with the result against the Dutch, we certainly did not play our best hockey but we will debrief and move on from here.

“We were not on the front foot enough, we need to come out, believe and back ourselves and we will definitely do that in our next game.

“We are through to a semi-final and that atmosphere is going to just be incredible and we will produce our best hockey when it counts.”
