Saints' Gaston Ramirez deal stalled again

Gaston Ramirez Gaston Ramirez

GASTON Ramirez’s potential record move to Saints has taken another twist.

The protracted transfer saga is still not complete despite more talks between Saints and his Italian side Bologna.

Sources in Italy maintain that the clubs are more or less in agreement over a fee – but cannot agree terms on the schedule of it being paid.

Saints are believed to be prepared to meet Bolgona’s demand of 15m euros for the Uruguayan winger, pictured left, which is about £12m.

Ramirez’s former club Penarol, who still own 30 per cent of the player, are also understood to have agreed a deal with Saints to sell their share in him.

The sticking point remains a payment schedule, with the clubs struggling to find common ground.

Tricky, we obviously want him, but to part with 12m is quite daunting, especially as we are not used to splashing that kind of cash. So for all parties concerned to sit down and agree is quite a task when 1 club still has 30% ownership. And with Philips, if holloway wasn't such a ****, then I think we would have done business, but it is quite good that someone has actually put in a transfer just to come to us, makes you feel good. So a deal is more likely for him than Gastons. Also, why aren't we bidding for maybe Curtis Davies or Richard Dawson, both good centre backs, and could def. do a job for us, just a thought.

Promotion to the Prem is estimated to be worth 90 million or more, but nobody actually gives you 90 million. We will get it bit by bit through increased ticket sales, tv money, etc. over the coming years.

re the last part of your post mate.
we don't now who the targets are and we could be in for any of those.seems that the club in general keep their cards close to their chests so we just have to be patient and see what turns up.

as i've said before lets just ignore this story driven by "sources" in Italy and just focus on the only factual site for transfers which is the OS. IF this deal happens then fantastic and what a statement of intent if not lets just wait for the club to announce a confirmed transfer.

My concern is understanding why every season we always drag our feet so much. For once it would be great to have all our targets signed up ready for pre-season. Can't understand why we are so silly and wait so long. Surely it's not difficult.

the reasons for our apparent lack of success in the market is I think driven by the fact that the chairman will not pay silly money and tries to broker a good deal for the club. this leads to some deals not being completed or other clubs coming in and paying daft fees.I can fully understand the frustrations but the long term future of sfc is in good hands.so it's evolution not revolution for the time being i'm afraid. but who knows, we could all be gasping at some mad arrivals before the window shuts. you never know!!!

Although he was a Hampshire lad, not sure 'Richard' Dawson would be of much to us anymore.

Yes we all know we should wait for the OS to stop this anguish, yet we are all still here day in day out, reading paper talk is like smoking, you know it isn't good for you but still you put yourself through it everyday.

Good news that Saints have agreed a deal with Penarol if this is in the form of a binding option or protocol will put NC in a good position to close deal with Bolonha who may not now be able to sit on the fence and see what happens with Modric given Spurs interest. Could yet happen.

I only hope the pressure does not get to Nigel Adkins especially if nothing comes of these signings. N A is already having to live with being the bookmakers’ favourite to be the first boss to be given the boot. Plus after Wigan we have Manchester United ( Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie) before travelling to Arsenal. N A has done wonders getting Saints into the prem league I just hope he doesn't crack under all the pressure that is coming his way and he shows the bookmakers that Saints mean business.

why is it everytime we try to sign someone there is always so much hassle? we missed out on Buttner because we couldnt agree something or other now he's gone to utd, it looks like the same is going to happpen now. if we want to stay in this league we have to buy top players so just spend the money and lets get some players in asap!!

If this doesn't happen then surely NC has a plan b, and if he does he will need to act quickly. I just hope things start to happen soon because I worry they will start to panic buy and invest in someone they haven't fully done their homework on. I would rather they took there time and buy the right players than rush into something.

good players don't grow on trees my guess is that saints identify the players they want only for other rich clubs to sneak in and gazump us, maybe im being paranoid but it feels like the big boys don't want us to stay around too long as they don't want the status quo to be ruined

£50M of the £90M is parachute money if we get relegated. Payable over 4 years. But not payable if you get promoted again. And a good slug of the remaining £40M is TV money paid in instalments over the course of the season, proportional to the number of televised games we appear in.

So, nowhere near £90M really, especially if you don't get relegated.

The strange world of the football transfer - if I want something and I have the money for it, I'll shop around and get the best deal.
I know how much it should cost - and I go where I can get the best value. No different in the case of Ramirez. Italy has severe financial problems - so a football club like Bologna will be wanting the cash. If I can get what I want on an interest free basis without stumping out all at once I go for that - seems to me NC is doing exactly the same - because he can.
It's like a card game - the only difference is who has the bottle to see it through to 31st August - someone will have to back down. We are not desperate for him - but I believe Bologna needs the cash so they may buckle sooner rather than later.
On another note I understand Holloway was talking up our club after last nights game - so may be not such a bad move for Phillips after all? It will make it easier for him (Holoway) when he joins to say "Couldn't stop him - they are a brilliant club with ambition"!
Another day wondering if and when and who...hold on to that F5 key, it's going to be a long day!

It sounds like Man Ure were the 3rd party involved in the deal and probably scuppered it. Ferguson and United have the tools to do so with the lure of the big club syndrome, lucrative contracts/wages and European football etc.
I just hope the same doesn't happen with Ramirez, Spuds and the Scousers

Unfortunately bolstering the defence is likely to be extremely expensive now that ManCity are almost certainly in the market after letting in two goals in a match against a newly promoted team, including a goal by a well-known, overweight pie eater.

The longer it all goes on the more likely we'll be gazumped! I see from other sources that Liverpool may be in the mix now too. I also note that Matt Dawson may be on his way out of Spurs? He would be a good signing - probably cost a bit though!

Only my opinion but can we stop having a go at Holloway over the Phillips affair. Just think back to how we have felt in the last few years when various Prem clubs have come after our players, Bale and AOC to name but two....He's only interested in ensuring the best return for Blackpool to the Prem and he did score for them last night! We may just have to up the offing a bit, that's all.

I would be willing to put my neck out and suggest that Rising Son was making a resonable stab at sarcasm there, and juxtaposing the impression outsiders try to give of Rickie as an overweight pie-eater with our perception of him as a chuffing football genius. Of course I could be wrong. He could, for instance, eat shedloads of pies for all I know when he's alone.
