Sharp and Hammond depart Saints
11:21pm Friday 31st August 2012 in Sport
Billy Sharp and Dean Hammond were surprise departures from Saints on deadline day.
As revealed online by the Daily Echo , striker Sharp moved to Championship side Nottingham Forest on loan for the rest of the season.
Midfielder and former skipper Hammond returned to his old club, Brighton, again on a temporary basis for the remainder of the campaign.
Sharp only joined Saints in January, in a £1.8m deal from Doncaster.
He leaves the club with an impressive record of ten goals in 18 matches, having helped them complete promotion to the Premier League .
Sharp, 26, wrote on Twitter: “I’m really sorry saints fans I’m off 2 forest 4 the season, uve been amazin to me love u all, massive thanks and gutted to be leavin.”
Minutes before the window shut, the club also announced they had sent Hammond to Championship side Brighton – the club where he began his career.
The 29-year-old, who joined Saints from Colchester in August 2009, has made 145 appearances and scored 11 goals in his time at St Mary’s.

Apart from Ramirez, a bit of an underwhelming day transfer-wise.
Defence still looks a bit weak - maybe we'll get a loanee in.
At least Rickie is still here.
together as one.

Sorry to see Billy Sharp go.
We are still light in defence.

When does the loan window open? Perhaps we'll sign a LB and another CB on loan then?

I'm very surprised by the negativity here. We've signed the best young English RB in Clyne. A highly rated versatile striker in Rodriguez. African cup 2012 golden boot who can play wide or up front. A winger capped 9 times for the best international team in the world. Glasgow ranger captain. Japan CB and captain. We've got outstanding young players coming through that are being included. Chung is fit again too which to me seems like a new signing.
Buttner is playing Sunday. Hope he's poor and we give him hell. I think we misses out on a LB unless to be announced as the number 3 and 10 were left out.
Surprised Billy given 11 if he wasn't in plans. I love the man but he does not have the pace or physicality for the prem. He is one of those players who will always be awesome in the second tier but never quite good enough for the Prem.
I have so much faith right now. The managers earnt it.

And I wasn't being negative - I said earlier it has been a great window, just underwhelmed with today. Judging by NA's comments, was under the impression there were a couple of defenders coming in. I still think we needed a left back.
Still, all in all, a good window and some cracking players now on the bus!

Without their commitment to the cause, along with NC, NA, and St Marcus we wouldn't be looking forward to the likes of Ramirez et al gracing the St Mary's pitch this season.
So let's write their names firmly in to the proud history of this club, and should they return, welcome them back with open arms. I for one would like thank them for their efforts. Without them we probably wouldn't be here now.

He has led by example, always put in a full shift.
Very good loan for Brighton.
Billy came to Saints unfit, that said, he scorred the vital goals that made the difference at the end of last season.
His loan to Forest could give them a massive boost this season.
It appears that we have not managed to find another LB. (IMO. our biggest weakness in our team).
So many conceded goals have started from this position.
Danny Fox,now has to take a big positive from this and knuckle down to improve his defending.
Sunday will be a massive test for him i.e Nanni & Valencia if they play.
Good luck to DEAN & BILLY.

Billy Sharp unfortunately lacks the pace necessary to trouble Premiership defenders but could feed off the right man; we'll have to wait and see.

Makes me laugh when you see comments on here about his so called lack of pace. Then you consider all of those top class finishers who didn't have pace, Matty for one, Sheringham, the list is endless.
I would like to see Billy in our squad, he is a class striker.

Unfortunately Billy did not fit into the system of playing one up front , lacks a yard of pace or physical presence but his contribution to our promotion should not be underestimated , deano has fallen down the pecking order with cork Davies spiderman and lallana , he was inspirational especially during promotion from the first division but just not good enough for the prem , good luck to them both as they are great professionals . Although no LB during window but in shaw we have some talent , remember how bale and bridge came from unknowns to internationals very quickly and this lad has bundles of potential to progress to the top even though only 17

According to a BBC report out today, he wanted clarify from Saints but he is happy at Forest with his old Doncaster boss who is now Forest manager.
He reckons Adkins don't want him any longer.
He might likely to stay with Forest permanently after loan deal expires next summer.
So he may not go back to St Mary's even if Saints fans want him back.
So sorry mates - No sharp but life must go on and forget him, he's gone for good.
Goodbye and good luck, Sharp.
