Eastleigh ’s David Smith helped Great Britain's mixed BC1-2 team secure boccia bronze at the ExCel this morning.

Hopes of retaining the gold medal won in Beijing four years ago were dashed yesterday after a heavy 18-1 semi-final defeat to Thailand.

But Smith, Nigel Murray, Daniel Bentley and Zoe Robinson picked themselves up brilliantly and beat Portugal 7-5 to secure bronze in front of a noisy home crowd.
