IAN Baird's five-year reign as Eastleigh manager is over.

Following a run of three straight defeats in the Blue Square Bet South, the ex-Saints and Leeds United striker departed the club last night.

A statement issued by Eastleigh this morning said: "Following a meeting at the Silverlake last night between manager Ian Baird and (owner/acting chairman) Stewart Donald it has been agreed that Ian will no longer be employed by Eastleigh as first team manager and has left the club with immediate effect.

"The Board thinks it very important to thank Ian for all his tireless efforts over the years.

"Ian has been a marvellous ambassador for the football club and has managed the team through some difficult circumstances during his tenure and has always acted in an extremely professional manner for the good of the club.

"We are certain Ian will be back in football very soon and wish him well for the future.

"The club is currently interviewing potential candidates for the position.

"In the interim (asistant manager) Shaun Wilkinson will take charge of the first team squad."

bridle and the players have to accept some responsibilaty for the bad start.the new owners are guilty of thinking just because you assemble a group of high paid players you assemble a good team -theyre not man city!
personally i think when it sinks in with bridle that we will never get decent gates and never engage the surrounding areas they will be off and leave us in the sh!t.
good luck bairdy.

In my personal opinion this move has been long overdue. A year ago Bairdy said he would resign if he didn't get EFC in the play-offs; he didn't do either; and the old regime gave him a new contract! Now he's chosen a whole new and expensive team: result 4/7 lost league games by early September. There must be quite a few qualified ex-pros out there who would be keen to kick off their managerial careers down here...

We will never get decent gates until Eastleigh move nearer to the town centre instead of being stuck in nomansland. Unfortunately the Lib Dems will always put any spare land forward to more & more housing, should've put a ground on the old Pirelli site while they had the chance. But thinking on, at this rate in 20 years time the town centre will be next to Eastleigh football club!

Molly Malone or Dodgy Harry - HELL NO!!!!! Don't even joke about that pair :-)

Thanks Bairdy for moving us forward but I think this is the right decision. We now need to find someone who can turn a bunch of very talented individuals into a team.

Wonder how long it will be before they get bored ?

As for Ian he's better out of it I'm certain he will join a club where he has a say in what goes on

He's a good man

Lee Hodges at Truro is the man they should go for. He has done wonders there, and he hasn't been paid since about 2009!
