Adams chases his boyhood dream in Hampshire's big day at Lord's

HAMPSHIRE captain Jimmy Adams will fulfil a boyhood dream if he lifts the Clydesdale Bank 40 trophy at Lord’s this afternoon.
Adams’s side finished their four-day season with a six-wicket defeat as Derbyshire clinched the LV County Championship division two title at Derby yesterday afternoon. But the final day of the domestic season gives them the chance to end on a high against Warwickshire.
Victory at Lord’s would be the perfect way for Winchester -born Adams, pictured, to conclude his first full season as Hampshire’s captain.
“When you grow up you watch others do it and in recent years there’s been a bit of a green-eyed monster when others have done it!” admits Adams, who hit a match-winning 55 in the 2009 Friends Provident Trophy final win against Sussex.
“Now we’re actually there I’ll have to pinch myself. It will be nerve-wracking and I’m sure I’ll be petrified! But I’m looking forward to it.”
Hampshire will be without Danny Briggs, but Ian Bell is not in England’s WorldTwenty20 squad so is available to Warwickshire.
“It’s going to be a tough old challenge but the key is to make the most of what is a fantastic day,” added Adams.
Play gets underway at Lord’s at 11.30am.
