oh well.. I've seen worse Saints teams win but have rarely seen a play as well as Arsnil did today. Proud of the lads in the second half.
Even though its Arsenal 6-1 in the premier league is embarrassing... #saintsfc— @Tomm_Lucas 15 September 2012
#saintsfc fans giving it til the final whistle - great travelling support! Well done— @RossiSFC 15 September 2012
Nive gesture as Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain go over to applaud the Saints fans together.
That's it. The final whistle blows to bring to the curtain down on a miserable day for Saints. The scoreline doesn't flatter the hosts in the slightest - they were well worth the winning margin, even if they did need two own goals from Saints to help them along.
Arsenal 6 Southampton 1

Anyone who wasn't sure about the size of the task just to stay in this division can now not have any illusions. I think we all knew that it would be a tough start, but not sure where we go from here. Strangely, we all seemed to know where the team needed to strengthen; perversely almost, we seem to have acquired mostly attacking players. Some mammoth performances required in the coming weeks, just to keep up with everyone else. Tough entry, but we fans gotta stick with it. Second half a bit of fight shown, at least. But we looked like frightened rabbits in the first. That's got to stop or we've had it.
GOAL: That's six for Arsenal. Theo Walcott lashes home from the corner of the box as the ball comes out to him nicely.
To his credit, the number 14 refuses to celebrate scoring against his first club.
That makes it Arsenal 6 Saints 1 with less than 2 minutes of normal time remaining, as the home fans head for the exits en masse.
Ramirez has a crack from 20 yards. A low hard drive which whistles past the post, after a nice move between Lallana and Puncheon ends in a throw-in level with the 18-yard line.
Clyne gives it to Ramirez who drops his shoulder, runs inside and shoots from a central postition.
Soon after he finds Clyne with lovely throughball, but the right-back can't get the cross past the 'keeper.
Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain team up to very nearly hit Saints for a sixth goal. Great skill from Walcott after Ramsey won the ball and played a superb through-ball to him. He twisted and turned inside the box before putting it across the face of goal for Chamberlain who just couldn't get enough on it.
A lucky escape for Saints from the old boys there.
Don't underestimate Arsenal I said... They were due a rout sadly we have got it!!!! #saintsfc— @sridout92 15 September 2012

Mush On The Beach says
It's not pretty, but let's do a real assesment after 12 games.
Negatives today - The defence is lacking again.
Positives today - Ramirez will feed the supply in the forward line
Arsenal and Saints substitutions: The excellent Gervinho is replaced by former Saint Theo Walcott and Podolski comes off for Giroud.
Meanwhile, Rickie Lambert is taken off by Nigel Adkins and replaced by Jay Rodriguez.
GOAL: Superb skill and technique from Ramsey takes him past Clyne. He then taps the ball towards the far post, which it then rebounds off in the inside off, only for Gervinho to be the fastest to react and tap home from less than a metre.
With 18 minutes left, it's Arsenal 5 Saints 1 .
Yet another poor clearance from Szczesny. This one is seized upon by Ramirez who sends it wide to Puncheon on the right, but it's just an inch or two too far in front of him.
However, good vision from the Uruguayan to spot the pass.
Good pressure from Saints in the final third. They close and harry Arsenal and a botched clearance from Szchesny ends up with Puncheon who sends the ball over from 25 yards.
Straight away, Wenger brings on Aaron Ramsey in place of Coquelin.
Lambert has started coming deep to retrieve the ball and the move is creating more chances for Saints and improving ball retention. One such move ends in a cross coming in, only for it to elude Lallana in the middle and the ball catches Clyne surprise so he can't make the most of the opportunity at the far post.
Much better from Saints.
Saints escape as Chamberlain sends the ball wide from eight yards after some superb play by Gervinho at the byline.
Rickie Lambert goes close as Gaston Ramirez mis-hits a shot across the face of goal.
Lambert manages to stretch out a leg and make contact with it, but is unable to guide it inside the far post.
#saintsfc on a positive note, fans are sounding awesome. #YELLOWS— @Jamie_Winch 15 September 2012

One can only hope Arsenal calm down a bit. More lessons to be learnt, here is what will be said, but this is mega bad.
We have been ripped to bits in the first half and our only hope is attack.
4:04pm Sat 15 Sep 12
Davis off and replaced by Gasto Ramirez.
Positive, and he has a chance to become a superhero
Ramirez has a curling shot at goal, but Szczesny is able to gather comfortably.
Saints fans already have a chant for the record signing - it's "Oh, Gaston Ra-mir-ez" to the join of Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes.
Adkins' men are looking much more positive in the early stages of the second half.
Right, we're underway for the second half. Gaston Ramirez has come on for Steven Davis, as Saints look to claw back three goals from somewhere.

Red n White says
Not Adkins' fault for sticking with the same team that started so well against United. I don't think anyone on here would pick a different side considering the new players have only been with the squad 2 days. It's these individual errors we need to cut out. On the bright side, we're 3-2 up on goals scored and are the first team to score against Arsenal this season.
HALF-TIMES: Arsenal 4-1 Southampton; Aston Villa 1-0 Swansea; Fulham 2-0 West Brom; Man Utd 0-0 Wigan; QPR 0-0 Chelsea; Stoke 1-1 Man City.— @premierleague 15 September 2012
ASSIST: Jason Puncheon provided the cross that led to Daniel Fox's goal for Southampton. #ARSSOU— @premierleague 15 September 2012
Hmmm....room for improvement in the 2nd half perhaps? Arsenal are marauding down both flanks for fun at the moment. #saintsfc— @DavidPalman 15 September 2012
3:41pm Sat 15 Sep 12
well looks like Ramirez and Mayuka coming on in the second half. if ever we needed a legend in the making its now lol
3:47pm Sat 15 Sep 12
at least we got 1 goal before half time, NA gonna go mental in the dressing room lol
GOAL: Start of an incredible comeback? Danny Fox slams home from seven yards after Szczesny spills the ball under pressure from Rickie Lambert.
That's the first goal Arsenal have conceded this season, so that's one positive to take from the first 45 minutes!
With the first half drawing to a close it's Arsenal 4 Saints 1 .
Hampshire are playing just up the road at Lord's, but at the moment this could be a cricket score here at the Emirates, too. Saints look woefully out of their depth and can neither get hold of the ball or stop Arsenal running through them.

splish splash we are getting a bath
I know they are a class act but geesh how can we play so woefully. Half our lot are hiding..
GOAL: It just gets worse for Saints. Gervinho has been top class and feeds the ball out to Saints' right.
The cross comes in but Nathaniel Clyne manages to get a toe to it, but all it does is wrong-foot the helpless Kelvin Davis and goes in at the near post.
Arsenal 4 Saints 0
GOAL: Gervinho races clear of Fox on the Saints' left and calmly slots the ball past Davis at his near post to put Arsenal 3-0 and presumably out of sight.
After 34 minutes, it's Arsenal 3 Saints 0.
GOAL: Yoshida's first action is clearing the ball out for a corner from an Oxlade-Chamberlain cross. Saints clear the ball as far but Steven Davis charges it down and gives away a free-kick 25 yards out.
Luka Podolski steps up and puts it in the top left corner, giving Kelvin Davis no chance, with a superb strike.
After 30 minutes, it's Arsenal 2 Saints 0 and things don't look good for Nigel Adkins' men.
Saints substitution: Maya Yoshida is coming on for his debut, replacing Jos Hooiveld after less than 30 minutes. The Dutchman doesn't look injured and has taken a place on the bench.
Superb interplay from Arsenal on the edge of Saints' box carves open a chance for Gervinho who heads over from eight yards.
Saints are defending very deeply and in numbers, presumably in an attempt to deal with the pace Arsenal have at their disposal - but the Gunners are still manging to find their way through the two banks of four with some excellent short passes.
When Saints do clear, the are struggling to find Lambert to allow him to hold the ball up and relieve the pressure.
Superb challenge from Nathaniel Clyne denies Gervinho at Kelvin Davis' near post. Davis' misses the resulting corner but makes amends by saving a goalbound header as the ball is hoisted back in the box.
2 penalties given away and now a own goal. Beginning to think Jos is a liability! #SaintsFC— @AdeMcKenzie 15 September 2012
Saints slowly getting back on their feet in this game after a spell when Arsenal looked rampant.
GOAL: Arsenal take the lead after Jos Hooiveld turns Kelvin Davis' parried save into his own net from less than a yard. The home side are well on top at the moment with Saints struggling to keep possession.
Some desperate defending by Saints. Hooiveld sticks a toe out to deny Arsenal but then the visitors struggle to get it clear. Luckily, they do enough to stop them getting a decent shot off ad Ward-Prowse takes the ball away from danger.
The Gunners have had the best chance so far, with an Oxlade-Chamberlain cross being blasted over Kelvin Davis' bar by Cazorla.
Loud support from the 3,000 or so Saints fans. Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain looks lively down Arsenal's right.
Good early pressure from Saints, with Ward-Prowse creating a decent chance as he ran at the Arsenal defence.
And here comes the kick-off, Saints with getting things underway. They will be defending the end with the yellow hordes of Saints fans in the first half.

Let's spare a thought for Spiderman, today.
Like most people from Alsace, he's an Arsenal fan and has been dreaming of playing at The Emirates (or Highbury) all his footballing life.
Would love him to be MotM and score the winner.
The teams are out and the Saints players are applauding the travelling fans.
Kick-off just five minutes away here at the Emirates Stadium, as Saints fans fill up their seats. Good loud chants of "Yellows" and "Oh When the Saints" being belted out.

#saintsfc players warming up. http://t.co/JU9YL3qf— @dankerins 15 September 2012
The PA announcer is struggling with some of the Saints players' names, especially Schneiderlin and Gazzaniga.
Last time Saints played against Arsenal in London was 2004. A Rory Delap double put Saints ahead only for a youthful Robin van Persie to snatch a draw deep into injury time at Highbury.
Saints have have already had their fill of him this season, so hopefully we can look forward to a better result this time.
Meanwhile, here's the Arsenal line-up:
Wojciech Szczesny; Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs; Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin; Gervinho, Lukas Podolski, Santi Cazorla
Subs: Vito Mannone, Laurent Koscielny, André Santos, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Andrei Arshavin, Olivier Giroud
As we're waiting for kick-off, Gordon Simpson and Adam Leitch have gone off exploring. I just hope they raid the freezer in the media department for more of the complimentary Ben & Jerry's.
Saints fans seem evenly split over today's expected result, with roughly a third predicting either a win, draw or loss on the poll below.
PA system here cut short a blast of Public Enemy for that song off the Internet Explorer Advert. I'm outraged.
