Davis was dreadful against Arsenal. To be beaten at your near post at this level (or any!) is absolutely criminal and he's been beaten twice in four games!

I appreciate his efforts over the past couple of years however he's not good enough for the premiership. we paid good money for Gazzinga so use him, or as previously stated, two very good goalies, both with international experience!

In regards to the game, it was disappointing we didn't play like we did against United. Punch didn't turn up. Lallana and Lambert were played out of the game and Fox's positioning was dreadful.

Big step up by all for the Villa game.
In my opinion we need to drop the 4-5-1 and play 4-4-2. two forwards & two wide men covering our full backs. The 4-5-1 simply doesn't work. On saturday, when Lambert did win the ball there was no one there next to him to knock it to.

Personally i'd drop Fox and play either Dickson or Shaw. He's been at fault for too many goals this season.

Also, with the 4-5-1 why do we have so many attackers on the bench!

If you use 4-4-2 with attacking full backs then it becomes 2-4-4 in attack and 4-4-2 in defence.

So when on the attack the ball is pressed in the opposition half if possession is lost which gives one full back the time to get back and create a temporary back 3 until the other one gets back to make it a back 4. Risk is without really quick full backs you get caught with only two at the back.

If you play it without attacking full backs or with only one attacking full then it can become turgid if the wide mid-fielders can't get by the opposition full backs.

Our problem is our central mid-fielders aren't quick enough against quick passing 1 and 2 touch teams such as Arsenal. This puts pressure on our "not up to PL standard" CB's and LB regardless of the formation.

We will have to see what happens against the likes of Villa and Everton when the new boys are on the park from the start. Will we have more of the ball in mid-field with Ramireze playing which will relieve the pressure on the defence? And will the defence be stiffened and under less pressure with the introduction of Yoshida?

And would it be better to start with Rodriguez who is younger and more mobile than Ricky and would be better at defending from the front. Then introduce Ricky in the second half after we had done a containing job on them?

Who knows? Answers on a postcard please to Confucious who will give you a more entertaining answer than me.

In the meantime stick with 4-5-1 and see what the new players are like.

you have misred what I have said. I said Ramirez should play in the hole and at home we play Rickie and away we play Rodriguez or Lee as the striker away from home. I am a great supporter of what Rickie has achieved, i just believe he is not mobile enough to play as a lone striker away from home when we need someone to run the channels and work right across the front line to defend from the front. As for Lallana, time will tell but I have said for some time he might get found out at the top level, he is skilful but is he quick enough in thought and action. He is 24 years old and never played Premiership football, Ramirez is younger and an established International. Lallana like Rickie has done tremendously well for us over the past two season, but there is no room for sentiment in football. I hope beyond hope that they both prove me wrong.

So, how many of Arsenal's goals are you blaming Fox for?

In fact, why not list the many goals you think he has been responsible for, so far this season.

From what I could see, on Saturday, 3 goals came from our right side, against Clyne.
1 goal was direct from a free kick, another from our new centre back being turned and the last one as a result of the ball reaching Walcott from a defensive block, from our right side.

With regards to the 433 we have been playing, IMO it is up to Puncheon and Lallana to get back and be the first line of defence, when crosses are being rained in.
What I have seen is wide players getting behind Punch and Lallana, then they have all the time in the world to cross the ball, whilst the full backs rush out to try and block them.
Unfortunately, there are too many fans that can't see this, so they just slag off the easy target, ie Fox, for not being close enough to the player Lallana should be marking.
I dare say Clyne will get the same treatment when he has been here for a few months, unless the wide midfield players start doing what they should be doing.

Could not agree more Warrens 76, we can do nothing about new defenders until January.
What we can do however is employ an ex premier player like Tony Adams to train up our defence.

After seeing Ramirez's second half performance I am convinced he is just the boy to turn our fortunes round.

Another thought, apart from us there still another six teams in the premier league that have not won a match so far this year.

Could the time it takes to buy players be down to NC's hard negotiation stance from his finance days?
Whilst it may appear to be good business to not get bullied around and get a player for the 'right price', this could be detremental to getting the players in early to jell with the team or even cutting your nose off to spite your face and not get the player at all (aka Buttner and co.)

There is such a thing as false economy and if saving money costs us our premier league place then is it worth it?
Pre season friendlies were a waste IMO. Sharpe, Hammond, Richards etc figured and are gone or are not good enough for this league. Every 1 knew we needed descent defensive cover, even ex players were writing about it in papers but did we get it and is it in time? I'm not sure if Adkins is able to attract players but they needed to be signed earlier like I mentioned as far back as January window. If Adkins goes I don't know where it leaves us and more worringly it will prove we have a dictator as chairman.......... Only time will tell

In regards to the game, it was disappointing we didn't play like we did against United. Punch didn't turn up. Lallana and Lambert were played out of the game and Fox's positioning was dreadful.

Big step up by all for the Villa game.
In my opinion we need to drop the 4-5-1 and play 4-4-2. two forwards & two wide men covering our full backs. The 4-5-1 simply doesn't work. On saturday, when Lambert did win the ball there was no one there next to him to knock it to.

Personally i'd drop Fox and play either Dickson or Shaw. He's been at fault for too many goals this season.

Also, with the 4-5-1 why do we have so many attackers on the bench!

I knew after that result that coming on here would be painful. The usual doomsayers who say the same things all the time about signings come back as soon as they can to plea how rubbish our chairman is at negotiating and our manager at tactics. Never mind two promotions and signing quality players.

For all the good NA & NC have done for us certain people can't wait to lay the boot in and complain. They really don't remember where we were a few seasons back, or like a spoiled child they now want, want, want, without looking to see what we have been given.

There are some on here who will probably never post when we start winning games, as they were never to be seen when we were paying good money for some great signings. They only come on here to complain! Well, they need to look East a few miles and see what it is like to have a p*** poor team.

I believe we have a good team and a team that, when settled will be a handful for many PL sides. We have played 3 top sides and people are moaning already... LOOK where we were 3 years ago guys.

For all the good NA & NC have done for us certain people can't wait to lay the boot in and complain. They really don't remember where we were a few seasons back, or like a spoiled child they now want, want, want, without looking to see what we have been given.

There are some on here who will probably never post when we start winning games, as they were never to be seen when we were paying good money for some great signings. They only come on here to complain! Well, they need to look East a few miles and see what it is like to have a p*** poor team.

I believe we have a good team and a team that, when settled will be a handful for many PL sides. We have played 3 top sides and people are moaning already... LOOK where we were 3 years ago guys.

OK, fine.... You have your opinion, all I am saying is that there are still 34 games to go and for what has been achieved over the last two years we need to be a little bit more loyal to the people that have got us here.

Changing manager every few months worked really well for us in the past didn't it!!

If like me you go and watch the games live. then you are entitled to an opinion whether it is positive or negative. The fact is we have conceded 14 goals in 4 games. We were winning against Man U and Adkins took off the 3 best players and changed the course of the game. We left a club record signing sat on the bench against Arsenal until half time? I honestly think that was a bad decision on both counts.

I was there too...we were beaten by the better side simples.
We played with one 11mill newbie player (second half). They started the game with at least six or seven.
Gary Neville may talk cr@p (in your opinion), but I'm willing to bet he has a little more credibilty on the subject than you. You may well be more qualified in the kitchen though...

I appreciate his efforts over the past couple of years however he's not good enough for the premiership. we paid good money for Gazzinga so use him, or as previously stated, two very good goalies, both with international experience!

In regards to the game, it was disappointing we didn't play like we did against United. Punch didn't turn up. Lallana and Lambert were played out of the game and Fox's positioning was dreadful.

Big step up by all for the Villa game.
In my opinion we need to drop the 4-5-1 and play 4-4-2. two forwards & two wide men covering our full backs. The 4-5-1 simply doesn't work. On saturday, when Lambert did win the ball there was no one there next to him to knock it to.

Personally i'd drop Fox and play either Dickson or Shaw. He's been at fault for too many goals this season.

Also, with the 4-5-1 why do we have so many attackers on the bench!

So, how many of Arsenal's goals are you blaming Fox for?

In fact, why not list the many goals you think he has been responsible for, so far this season.

From what I could see, on Saturday, 3 goals came from our right side, against Clyne.
1 goal was direct from a free kick, another from our new centre back being turned and the last one as a result of the ball reaching Walcott from a defensive block, from our right side.

With regards to the 433 we have been playing, IMO it is up to Puncheon and Lallana to get back and be the first line of defence, when crosses are being rained in.
What I have seen is wide players getting behind Punch and Lallana, then they have all the time in the world to cross the ball, whilst the full backs rush out to try and block them.
Unfortunately, there are too many fans that can't see this, so they just slag off the easy target, ie Fox, for not being close enough to the player Lallana should be marking.
I dare say Clyne will get the same treatment when he has been here for a few months, unless the wide midfield players start doing what they should be doing.

Fox was responsible for two goals against City. and 2 against united. He allowed Tevez through and made an utterly useless clearance for the third. Against Manure he allowed the crosses to come in. Valencia had the beating of him all day. Against Arsenal he was at times playing as a third CB whilst in my opinion (and that's all this is, my own opinion) he should have been tight up against the Ox. Perhaps this wasn't explained to him by NC or the coaches. Tbh Jenkinson did nothing, and adam should have been covering Fox. This was evident in the second half when there was so much space for Ox and then Walcott.
the three goals that we conceded from the right, one was an own goal from clyne which was lucky, one was an own goal from Jos which in my opinion shouldn't have gone past Kelvin and the third was that punch wasn't tracking and therefore the player was able to skip through clyne as he was marking 2 players.
I was dismayed on saturday that our players didn't seem to want to go forward, against united punch and lallana and clyne were screaming up the pitch, but against Arsenal we got the ball and played side to side in our midfield.
We were so bad that we made Gervinho look good!
Everyone knew this year would be tough, everyone knew that the first 4 games would be tough and hopefully we pick up some points against Villa.

He has credibility. Thats why he is paid a fortune to pretty much ramble randomly as he likes.... TV pundits are generally lazy imo and state either the obvious or grab hold of one or two passages of play and then generalise. The best example of his vacuous opinions was I think his attempt to defend Ashley youngs blatant cheating last season and his lack of understanding of what constitutes a dangerous tackle....The guy was a great footballer but he is as thick as two short planks.... in my humble opinion... ;-)

Recruit prem quality players last January? What planet are you from? Last January we were competing for promotion but were no means certain to get it but you wanted players of prem quality to leave their clubs and join a team that might get promoted? Wake up!
I actually individually rate our defenders, the problem is they are not quite functioning as a unit at the moment. What we need is an ugly clean sheet to get confidence up a bit and then I think we'll start moving in the right direction. Have a bit of faith people!

I actually individually rate our defenders, the problem is they are not quite functioning as a unit at the moment. What we need is an ugly clean sheet to get confidence up a bit and then I think we'll start moving in the right direction. Have a bit of faith people!

GK is the difficult one.. oh and left back are usually "defensive" players... ;-)

Davis was dreadful against Arsenal. To be beaten at your near post at this level (or any!) is absolutely criminal and he's been beaten twice in four games!

I appreciate his efforts over the past couple of years however he's not good enough for the premiership. we paid good money for Gazzinga so use him, or as previously stated, two very good goalies, both with international experience!

In regards to the game, it was disappointing we didn't play like we did against United. Punch didn't turn up. Lallana and Lambert were played out of the game and Fox's positioning was dreadful.

In my opinion we need to drop the 4-5-1 and play 4-4-2. two forwards & two wide men covering our full backs. The 4-5-1 simply doesn't work. On saturday, when Lambert did win the ball there was no one there next to him to knock it to.

Personally i'd drop Fox and play either Dickson or Shaw. He's been at fault for too many goals this season.

Also, with the 4-5-1 why do we have so many attackers on the bench!

From what I could see, on Saturday, 3 goals came from our right side, against Clyne.
1 goal was direct from a free kick, another from our new centre back being turned and the last one as a result of the ball reaching Walcott from a defensive block, from our right side.

With regards to the 433 we have been playing, IMO it is up to Puncheon and Lallana to get back and be the first line of defence, when crosses are being rained in.
What I have seen is wide players getting behind Punch and Lallana, then they have all the time in the world to cross the ball, whilst the full backs rush out to try and block them.
Unfortunately, there are too many fans that can't see this, so they just slag off the easy target, ie Fox, for not being close enough to the player Lallana should be marking.
I dare say Clyne will get the same treatment when he has been here for a few months, unless the wide midfield players start doing what they should be doing.
