Record signing Gaston Ramirez is hoping for a first start for Saints against Aston Villa tomorrow.

The £12m man made his bow as a half time substitute in the 6-1 defeat at Arsenal with Saints having already conceded four goals by then.

Though the game was already virtually lost by that stage, his presence did produce a few brighter moments for the beleaguered side at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramirez could hardly have been considered for a start in the game against the Gunners having only just met his teammates following a long trip back from Uruguay where he was on intentional duty.

But with a week of acclimatisation under his belt, he is set to feature at St Mary’s.

It will be a big moment for Ramirez but also huge for the club who are banking on his inspiration to help them to their first points of the season.
