COYR`s villa aint been that good and a bit of class in the second half and this games ours!
Vlaar Booked for villa so rickie should put some pressure on him as he cant make a bad challenge now or hes off!
i would take punch off for the second half and put either Mayuka or Rodriguez up front with rickie for some pace and put gaston on the right.

clyne and punch both made mistakes for their goal, but i bet most of the moaners will blame fox!

Adkins tactics spot on taking fox off who IMO was at fault for not challenging at far post for their goal.
Clyne pips puncheon for motm but whole team no lower than 8 out of 10. Defence rode storm, midfield won their battles and came out on top (Ireland off half time) and attack made good runs for Ramirez the puppeteer, to find. gassinger looked unfazed and if he'd been playing all season. Itchen north top atmosphere, villa fans only sing when their winning!

Nige got panned, it was questioned whether he knew what he was doing at this level following the Manure game substitutions. Todays excellent subs (Clyne scored and Mayuga got the penaty) reinforces what an overreaction all that was as we all know how well Nige does in this area usually.
Glad to see Lambert stay on. He showed again how important he is to us defensively as well as offensively!

..... it was Guly's fault that Nigel was forced to take Fox of at half time and they are both to blame for the 2,000 empty seats. Although it's a bit much, as some have, to blame either for the Euro crisis, which, given his reluctance to play Luke Shaw, is clearly Nigel's fault.

In my opinion the difference was Gaston coming back a little deeper and found more of the ball in 2nd half. Cracking signing - skillful and strong on the ball - and this is going to take a lot of attension from Lallana IMO - it's going to be great.
Clune on the left - what a stroke of genius and Puncheon - he's just getting better and better (apart from the defensive mistake - but I'll forgive him for that!).
Everton will be a tough one but deal with the hair bear and I am sure we will get something.
Gutted about the chaps down the road - had such a sleepless night!!

Either way, I though the axis of evil (for saints) comprised by the weekly motd panel was suitable gracious last night.
I would agree with the views that linking srl to grant holt is crappy analysis, and kind of a slight on the lamb. They both shape up the same way in front of goal, but rickie does so much more in defense and midfield.
Saying that I'm not sure rickie would sut englands style of play, which is more based on position specialists. But I bet rickie would answer a few of England's problems with holding up the ball.

Dear Match Of The Day pundits: it's not actually the law that you have to mention Grant Holt in the same sentence as Rickie Lambert every single sodding time you talk about him (which, believe me, you'll be doing a lot this year). Not only is the comparison cliched and lazy; it also makes you look like a total fucktard because anyone who has seen the two will know Rickie is ten times the player Holt is.

Our defence is far better yesterday, and will only get stronger, and Maya is going to be the man! No nonse player.
But our first line of defence is attack, and any team we play will mainly be thinking off what is coming at their goal in the main. No game in the prem is going to be easy, and I for one always think Saints are at their best playing stronger teams and often make a mess of games they should easily win.
This is the best time to play Everton. They are hot at the moment, and Saints can move forward on the back of a good win, by playing their game and hopefully bursting Everton bubble! Someone got to, and why not Saints?

Think a comparison with grant holt was a bit harsh on rickie , if you look at out and out english target men he has got the edge over holt, crouch and the long haired plank on loan at west ham , Roy hogdson you could do worse by selecting him for your next squad , rickie aint blessed with pace but neither was teddy sheringham who was great at international level , much better comparison than holt
mark vuduka the old leeds and newcastle player.similar size pace and control.

But NA has renewed my confidence in not only him but the way in which he drives the club forward.
Ramirez is 24 carat quality, and the wizard in midfield, that we needed, cant get over the way he compliments lallana,I thought they would be in direct competition ,but no,they are both on the same level,a joy to watch.
The keepers position is now sorted, competition is a healthy thing especially in that position, fight back Kelv for the jersey-your choice.
We made aston villa look doomed, passing ,movement and I loved the way clyne popped up in the box to bang one in,because thats what arsenal did to us,they kept rotating but in this game we took the fight to them, lesson learnt, that is the saints style ,and I loved it.

This shows what can be done if we do support and stick together.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when we were singing "there's only one Nigel Atkins". One of the reasons I love Southampton so much is because of the majority of our supporters are amazing. Everyone should pat themselves on the back, except the moaning doomsayers!
