Artur Boruc could be in line for a quick-fire Saints debut tonight.

The 32-year-old Polish keeper only joined the club after watching Saints beat Aston Villa on Saturday but could figure as his new club takes on former boss Dave Jones’ Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the Capital One Cup at St Mary’s this evening.

It is understood that Nigel Adkins would like to blood Boruc as soon as possible with the experienced international having not played since May.

But he will only do so if he thinks that Boruc is entirely ready to get a taste of the action so quickly.

If Boruc can play and comes through successfully he will be in contention to start against Everton.

The ex-Celtic and Fiorentina man has been brought in to bolster a goalkeeping department that includes Kelvin Davis , who was dropped for the Villa match, and Paulo Gazzaniga who was drafted in for a first Saints start.

Adkins is expected to make a full 11 changes for the game against Wednesday tonight, who are also expected to change their side around from their regular league line-up.

There could be youngsters given a run out, such as Luke Shaw, who is looking to impress as a good performance could gain him a left back slot in the Premier League .

Also some of the players who helped take Saints into the Premier League such as Richard Chaplow and Danny Butterfield could be given a game, along with the likes of Dan Seaborne .

Emmanuel Mayuka is hoping for a first start since his £3.5m summer move.
