England crash out after dropping Briggs

DANNY BRIGGS DANNY BRIGGS

Defending champions England were knocked out of the World Twenty20 - after dropping Danny Briggs.

England's 19-run defeat in their Super Eight match against hosts Sri Lanka saw them bow out of the competition in Pallekele.

Having replaced Briggs, Samit Patel provided hope with a 48-ball 67 before he became a fifth victim for Lasith Malinga (5-31).

Patel had conceded 27 from his two overs as England conceded 169-6 before being restricted to 150-9 in reply.
