England call-up for Saints stars?

RICKIE LAMBERT RICKIE LAMBERT

Roy Hodgson will name his squad for England’s next two World Cup qualifiers tomorrow.

The question on Saints fans’ lips will be ‘is there a place for either Adam Lallana or Rickie Lambert?’ Lallana was a late addition to the last senior squad, earning a place on the bench for the 1-1 draw against Ukraine at Wembley.

Although it took a handful of withdrawals from the original group to prompt the inclusion of the midfielder, it proved that he is certainly in the thoughts of Hodgson.

Whether there is space for the 24-year-old in the squad for the fixtures against San Marino and Poland remains to be seen.

Lambert has also been making a case for a place in the England set-up.

With four goals so far this season, he is the joint top English scorer in the division.

I think Lala is more likely, but Hodgsons striker options are limited. He will prefer Carol to Lambert but under current circumstances it is unclear if Carol is ready yet.

It's just great that these rumours can even be started. Two years ago these players were league One and now they are lighting up the best league in the world.

Great - as long as we don't pick up any injuries on international duty. But whatever - this Sunday is far more pressing and vital.

If you apply either the Dempster-Shafer theory or the Kolmogorov formulation on mathematical probabilities you can see that if we don't improve our current points tally in our remaining 34 games by more than 8% while the other seven teams around us do improve on average by 2.5% in their remaining 238 games; providing the mid table six do not deviate from current form by more than 4% in their remaining 204 games, then we will be relegated two points short of survival.

This makes the match against Fulham a "must win".

And don't shrug this off by thinking that all this is based simply on the independent calculation method. It isn't. Three points against Fulham is STILL a must even using mutually exclusive numbers.

PS I have e mailed Nigel with this info (though no reply as of 9.32am).

Would be great for Rickie to get called up and make him even more lethal.
Who would you rather have up front Rickie, or Bent, Defoe, Carol or wellbeck?
Has to be Rickie, and play Roonie off of him like he does with Van Persie.

I thought the same.

I've mentioned before that some people just come on her and quote the bl**ding obvious. My own view on the Bayesian theory of subjective probability supports the basic ethic of all fans on here, it's all about belief and plausibility.

Nigel will no doubt be drawing up some slides on this for the next team tactics talk. It will however have to be produced in multiple languages given the large nationality distribution within our squad.

... or to put it another way. In recent years the Markov Random Field (MRF) has become the de facto probabilistic model for low-level vision applications. However, in a maximum a posteriori (MAP) framework, MRFs inherently encourage delta function marginal statistics. By contrast, many low-level vision problems have heavy tailed marginal statistics, making the MRF model unsuitable. A recent paper introduced a more general Marginal Probability Field (MPF), of which the MRF is a special, linear case, and show that convex energy MPFs can be used to encourage arbitrary marginal statistics. We introduce a flexible, extensible framework for effectively optimizing the resulting NP-hard MAP problem, based around dual-decomposition and a modified min-cost flow algorithm, and which achieves global optimality in some instances. We use a range of applications, including image denoising and texture synthesis, to demonstrate the benefits of this class of MPF over MRFs.

So, in summary, it's all about vision !!

Even if they don't play just being part of the squad will be a massive boost for their confidence, not to mention the experience of training with some world class players and being coached by world class coaches. If they don't get injured it can only benefit Saints. Lambert should surely get a call up. Lambert and Defoe could be a cracking partnership with Rooney roaming around behind them in a 4-3-3.

You may be right.

I am a Saints man through and through but I must say I do support England. But it's in the sort of way you support a local non league team, like Eastleigh for example. They will burn brightly now and then but they always return to obscurity. I may be alone in this thought but I have also lost respect for the England players since it is so clear they put money before the team. Thats life I suppose.

Getting back on the beam, I also think Hodgson is unlikely to pick Lambert....unless he's the leading scorer around January .... then we'll see.

Ahh to have good friends in the press...

On our woes.....our defence is what it is the chances of a Damascian conversion along the way and suddenly "seeing the error of their way's" no chance..it a'int gonna happen so I fully expect us to ship 100+ goals.....no question...

However we CAN attack and few teams can or will make as many clear cut chances as us....therefore absolute focus has to be if you have a chance score ..no excuses...

Italian football for many years revolved around one chance one goal football...instill the killer touch particularly in Lallana who although I love him does flatter to deceive...we are far, far more likely to stay up by conceding 2/3/4 and scoring 3/4/5 .thanbecoming the new Arsenal..comments pleease.

Confucious - the comment about not supporting England after you discovered Portsmouth was in it may go viral !! Deservedly so!

I work with mainly London team supporters who are all now plagiarising the comment and applying it to various other clubs on their own sites. I'd claim for royalties if I were you !!
That's amazing. I thought nearly everyone already knew Portsmouth is in England.

Come on Belgium.
I didn't know !! I thought all the police that turned out whenever we went down there were border control guards. Their main role being to stop people getting out.

Oh well. I learn something new every day.

I have to say, after reading through all the above posts, I feel intellectually stimulated, deeply amused and, owing to the occasional mention of Rachel Riley, just a tad ‘flustered’.

Just need someone to get in the beers and it'll already be a d4rn good evening without even having set foot out the door.

Come on Belgium!

A Dutchman and a Belgian are sitting in a bar, watching the evening news.

They see a woman ready to jump from the 6th floor, shouting "I'm going to jump, I'm going to jump!".

One of them says: "I bet she's gonna jump"

The Belgian says " I bet she won't" .

So they bet and the woman jumps.

Then the Dutch tells the Belgian:
"I have to confess that I cheated, as I already saw it on the 1pm news."

"Me too, says the Belgian, I saw it on the 1 pm news too. But I did not
think that she would be stupid enough to jump twice."

It is not IN England...as the proud Portsea portaloo warriors like to tell everyone they are an island and are "special"...breeds a certain closeness, unfotunately to their brothers and sisters.

I stopped supporting England when my teacher at school told me that Portsmouth was in it.

I decided instead to support the country with the shortest national anthem, because it's noticeable that the longer the anthem is the more rubbish the country is.

Norway was a contender, but everywhere there smells of kippers - and I couldn't take to Italy because it was like being in a foreign country.

I settled for Belgium because I read it was invented by the British to annoy the French.

Come on Belgium.
I think that in the future you might be able to support England. As Portsmouth is an island they are going to apply for home rule, (bit similar to Scotland), freeing you to support England again.
