Hampshire star on England Turkey shoot!

Daily Echo: NEIL RAYMOND NEIL RAYMOND

Neil Raymond is this week bidding to help England win their first ever World Amateur Team Championships title.

The Corhampton player is one of three men selected to represent his country in the prestigious Eisenhower Trophy tournament, which takes place in Turkey.

England has not won the event since the home nations started fielding separate teams in 2002, with Great Britain & Ireland’s last victory coming in 1998.

Raymond, pictured, has blossomed into one of the country’s finest amateurs in recent years.

The 26-year-old was crowned English stroke play champion in 2011, before winning the famous Brabazon Trophy again earlier this season.

He was capped for the first time in last year’s international against Spain and has been a regular in the national side ever since.

Raymond won the New South Wales Medal in Australia last winter and was a quarter-finalist in the recent English Amateur Championship.

He is joined in the team by Craig Hinton, 24, who plays at The Oxfordshire and won this year’s Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship, as well as Garrick Porteous, the 22-year-old from Northumberland.

The Eisenhower Trophy will be contested over the Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club and also at the Cornelia Golf Club, with play beginning tomorrow and running through until Sunday.
