Matty Tew
Devastated Matty Tew has seen his big title shot fall through after failing to make the weight.
The Southampton lightweight was forced to pull out of tonight’s televised clash with Ruben Movsesian for the vacant International Masters strap after finally admitting defeat in his bid to hit his target for a day before weigh-in.
It is a massive blow for Tew who has earned the contest the hard way, notching up 11 wins from 11 fights.
However, the fighter insists he will learn from it and come back stronger.
He said: “I am absolutely gutted.
“I thought the last pounds would come off easily but it just wasn’t happening.
“It’s been a big learning curve for me.
“I’ve been making weight in boxing since I was ten-years-old but to tell the truth it has got harder as I’ve got older. I’m 30 next month and it’s certainly got a lot harder rather than any easier.
“My body just didn’t want me to lose those last pounds. I’m gutted about it.
“I will go up to London next week to sit down face-to-face with my manager Mickey Helliet and see if I can get this fight again.
“It might be that I won’t get the television exposure if it is made again which is so disappointing for me but I will have to accept that.

Please, please don't bang on that he's undefeated. He has only boxed someone once with a winning record and that was a poor 2W - 1D. In fact if you add his opponents records together it reads 19W-269L-15D so there is the reason that Matty is undefeated - he hasn't fought anyone who has come to win (yet!).
Incidentally I like him, think he's a nice bloke but his career is going nowhere fast, he is in a competitive division and unless his opposition is stepped up soon his career is in danger of never reaching his potenital, when he steps up it may be too late and he'll get stopped.
He doesn't pocess KO power but hes a good slick boxer that will give people fits, hopefully Mickey starts taking him seriously.

Nor the places he has traveled to box since a young age
And I would say being able to K O somebody with a body shot whilst in danger of being stopped him self for a very deep cut is the veryK O power you are saying he lacks!!
I also believe that Tew will prove his point next time out
And I will finish by saying watch this space

Matty is not even in the top 25 British lightweights and has no hope of beating the top 5 and I'd pick the next 10 - 15 to beat him too.
I don't understand of all the people above him how fights can't be made, the likes of Ryan Barrett, Femi Fenolital (can't spell sorry) should be easy fights to make with lots of these fighters being with Mickey.
Don't think amateur pedigree counts as much anymore, look at Saturday night with Harrisson getting blown away and Degale struggling (that may be rust) its what you do in the paid ranks that counts.
Its great having a huge fanbase but ultimately it is a fickle thing. Colin Kenna used to pack the Guildhall, have a loyal army of travelling fans, but one or two losses later and that fan base fell away (and got sick of him fighting journeymen too).
I'm guessing of all these posts you guys aren't the loyal Tew fanbase you claim to have since nobody has said anything about being peeed off about the fight being cancelled when you had tickets, transport, travel etc booked.....
Like I say I think Matty is a nice fellow, sat across the ilse from him on a flight to Hannover for the Haye fight and he came across very well and dedicated planning to go straight into the gym when he arrived at his hotel.
Like you I'm interested to watch this space and hope to be proved wrong.
