Saints pair snubbed by England boss

Adam Lallana Adam Lallana

Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for next week’s World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland – but there is no place for Adam Lallana or Rickie Lambert.

Lallana was given a late call-up for the last qualifier, a 1-1 draw with Ukraine at Wembley, making it onto the bench for the match.

However, he was not among the nine midfielders selected by Hodgson yesterday.

Lambert had made a case for a place in the squad after scoring four times already in the Premier League this season – a total that no English striker can beat – but he too has been overlooked, after the return to fitness of Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll.

If England only had to play San Marino then I think at least Lallana would have been picked. Poland is going to be a bit more tricky and Roy is probably thinking he needs to stick with experience. If it was me I would start playing youth, what have the Gerrards, Lampards and Rooney's done for England?!?

Well at least 2 of them have been sent off at pretty crucial moments for their country. I don't really want to slag off Lampard as a lot of the abuse he has had over the years I don't really think was warranted but he is passed it for England now imo.

If Rickie or Adam played for one of the 'big six' they would be in every squad. It seems the only criteria that is needed. **** look Ox or Theo. Johnson and Milner never play fot their clubs. You have feel sorry for our two and the likes of Holt Nolan etc

How many players can we name that are in this boat and I will make the alternative England X1 (current players only for now)

Who cares. Playing for England seems to be an albatross round the players necks. Just keep playing well for Saints and don't worry about it.

Good. Without these two player saints are definite relegation material. Got to keep them club fit so they have to play every minute for saints. RL picking up a niggle whilst playing poland is a horror story for saints. so lets move on to 3 points at Fulham with goals and a clean sheet.

In my opinion the England set up has been an absolute shambles for the last 10 years. Ever since the days of Bobby Robson and Venables when we had a good side. I rmemember when we strikers to choose from in Shearer, Fowler, Sherrinham, Owen, Wright, Ferdinand, Linekar, Barnes.Keegan. About as bad now as when Saints had Ropert lowe as you can go.

COME ON YOU SAINTS

Atleast Lambo and Lallana wont be getting injured against San Marino:):)

You look at the strikers there and think about the ones about today what a difference there is. Every single one mentioned there would get in the side today.

I try not to slag the Echo, they at least provide this forum, but why do they have to write such stupid headlines? Since Lambert has never been part of the England set up he cannot have been snubbed; at best you can say ignored, but then that applies to virtually ever footballer in the country. While Lallana was brought into the last squad jut because there was a space due to withdrawals to give him a taste of it, for the management team to get a closer look, and to make sure he's ready if he does step up a level in the PRem and be ready for the National team. That was obvioulsy a one-off call until he's proven he is ready. So again, hardly a snub.

This trend in all papers, not just the echo, to have big headlines that don't match the story, is one of the main reasons I don't buy newspapers any more; it's an insult to our intelligence. Keep them for the News site, where you can't insult their intelligence if you try...

Ryan Shawcross set to be the first stoke city player for 20 odd years to play for england.that makes stoke even more unfashionable than us.i think Terry Paine got all his england caps before he ever kicked a ball in the top flight..in those days you were picked if you were good enough regardless of who you played for
