Leadbitter Group say suspension of work at Saints' training ground is just a 'temporary pause'

Staplewood, before redevelopment began Staplewood, before redevelopment began

CONTRACTORS carrying out the redevelopment of Saints’ training ground have said work has been temporarily suspended to “confirm details of a specific aspect of the project”.

Leadbitter Group said they expect construction at the club’s Staplewood complex to resume shortly.

Work stopped at the training ground on Wednesday morning.

A statement from Leadbitter said: “Everyone involved in the construction of the new training ground at Southampton Football Club wants to ensure that the facility meets the current and future needs of the club.

“Therefore, we have agreed with the club that works will pause so that we may confirm details of a specific aspect of the project. Works are expected to resume in the near future.”

The nature of the “specific aspect” has not been disclosed.

Saints club spokesman Jordan Sibley said on Twitter that the two parties had “agreed to pause the process whilst details of a specific aspect of the specification is confirmed.”

He added that Leadbitter and Saints were “looking forward to the project being completed ahead of the 2013-14 season.”

Staplewood has been undergoing a multi-million pound renovation scheme following the approval of planning permission earlier this year.

I heard the issue was that somebody kept stealing gates from around the re-developed site. The thief was spotted by Leadbitter security people but they didn't say anything in case they took a fence.

Panic over. They probably hit a mole with a digger and upset a tree hugging baffoon with flowers in their hair. Surely the specific aspects would have been sorted out beforehand? I've only got a little bit of experience of building work but I'm fairly sure all this would have been done already? Maybe Cortese changed his mind. Maybe a Pompey scarf was buried under the pitch again?

A lot of fuss over nothing.

Ladies toilets are now being installed as the training ground is expected to pull quite a crowd with our international array of superstars on show.

Currently, so I'm told, the training ground pulls bigger crowds than some local ex-premiership clubs and that's before its in full usage !!

If it helps to get things moving again, the grass goes in green side up, and the paint you need is Johnstone's red and Johnstone's white.

Shock headline "Premier League Chairman is Unpopular". Unusual.

I will wait and see if I can actually buy a programme on Sunday. They were sold out 35 minutes before KO at the ManU game and pretty much sold out with 30 minutes to go for the Villa game. That says to me that they are simply not printing enough.

The club seem to be addressing the wrong problem.

Its also funny how successful bosses do not always behave as some assume they do. I happen to know what he is referring to.
