SAINTS striker Jay Rodriguez has been shortlisted for the Championship Player of the Year honour at the 2012 Northwest Football Awards.

The 23-year-old, left, who scored 21 goals for Burnley last term before completing a £7m move to St Mary’s in the summer, is up against Blackpool’s Alex Baptiste in the voting.

The awards, which were established five years ago, cover the 23 professional clubs in the north-west region.

Rodriguez won the Championship accolade last year as well.

Fans can vote on northwestfootballawards.com/voting before 5pm on Monday, October 29.

Good question??

Surely it has to be Lambert or Lallana.

I am not sure this story warrants two seperate threads, particularly as he earned the nomination elsewhere. Good luck to him and I hope can reproduce the form for us when he gets the opportunity.

That picture is him missing that chance to make us 2-0 up at Everton, innit?

If that had gone in we might only have lost 3-2.

Great to get an Award - and I think he will do well in the Cup Runs this season.

Due to his positional play in the League - he will have to work excepionally hard to get a decent tally of goals.

Good to have some additional quality in the Team.

Let's see him make a name for himself at leeds Away in the Cup with all their hard ars* tackling.

In the league cannot wait for the wet spam game and the WIN. We dominated last year and will do so again.
They have a few dangermen including Andy Carroll - hopefullly Nigel will have done his homework !!

Best of luck Jay. No doubt, like me, you will be on tenderhooks for a few days until the announcement is made.

I've always been rather suspicious of awards since "Best fascist dictator" was won by Adolf Hitler. It's also sobering to think that when that great achiever Mozart was my age he'd already been dead for over 25 years.

Nonetheless, I'm delighted to be in the running for "Best Fan in Kingsland Block 33 Rows T to Z." I must admit I'll be amazed if I win it and in fact the lengthy acceptance speech I've written starts with the words: "I'm amazed I won this."

Of course, it's important to accept these things with due modesty and Keith Richards is my model for this behaviour. He was the first person at our Music Club to accept a posthumous award in person.

I remember that award for Hitler and it was a close run thing.

From what I remember, Tebourba's many complex personalities all encouraged each other to vote and the combined total of these came to more than the combined total vote for Adolf.

Alas, in his (their?) confused and complex state, the many minds of Tebourba cast votes for Slugger, Bill, Cortese and Seedhouse and, alas, he (they) split the vote.

Seedhouse was glad, though, because, if Slugger had won, his acceptance speech was so long there wouldn't have been time to get the second round in at the bar.

One mystery remains, though. How the hell did those three get on the short list? There's clearly some mischief in the ranks, Confucious.

Tebourba, meanwhile, was said to be beside himselves (sic) with grief. 'If only I (we) hadn't split the vote,' he was heard to sob.

Hindsight, it appears, is a wonderful thing.

I dont think Puncheon would have been substituted just for 'pushing' Fulhams goalkeeper.

In fact Puncheon seemed to back into him thats all.

Schwarzer dropped down like a ton weight.

Had he possibly stayed on his feet then the ref may have given the goal.

Unfortunately these are the 'tactics' that go unnoticed by referees.

It's not so hard to do, dad. Two thirds of the crowd stay inside the stadium, and the remaining 10,000 thirsy punters are spread across at least 20 outlets inside the stands that serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic areas.

That is a turnaround of 500 customers in 15 minutes, at outlets usually staffed by at least 5 people each. So each server needs to satisfy 100 buyers, which is the source of our problem at its root. It is difficult to sell ten drinks a minute, even with multiple orders and pre-lured saints ales, especially if you factor in food and our lackadaisical serving staff.

But this is a nut that any professional caterer could crack, and actually one that many pubs have already cracked, with better planning (preorders with receipts nd collections; priority queues for drinks only, vending machines for soft drinks and snacks).

If you wonder why I have put so much thought into this, i've had plenty of time to think it over.

While queueing of course.

Seed, Slugger and Bill should fear not. Awards are like haemorrhoids - sooner or later every @rsehole gets one.
me and you are gonna fall out .
That wasn't me. Guly and Fox have nicked my login and are stirring sh!t up.
very funny .

Block34...have you ever considered how exactly to serve 30,000 people at the same time. We could put bars up on the pitch 5 minutes before half time. An alternative would be for straws to drop down from the roof for each individual seat, orders placed online. Waitresses with trays and short skirts. Sprinkler system adapted to be able to pipe the lager straight from the barrell and operated at half time. Drink all you can catch.

I quite like the "straws from the ceiling" idea. Only problem being, we would have to pay in advance via the Club's website...which (in my experience) would take longer than queing at the bar.

I can only assume Guly and Fox set up the new website! :O)

well wish nigel took him off sunday and put on guly for him on not lambert ,could understand taking puncheon off ,he pushed the keeper and cost 3 precious points

Bring in the 4th tv official then like rugby key decisions can be properly scrutinised, divers can be booked or sent off and we won't be forever critising poor referee decisions.
I agree on that.

Re: Punch, from what I saw on Sky, he raising his foor backwards, which, maybe, clipped Schwarzer. Still seemed minimal contact though.

Pete and Mush would surely agree that Aussies are supposed to be made of sterner stuff.
Pushed the keeper??
Ive been studying sattelite pictures of the Stadium all week looking for a grassy knoll!! He went down like he'd been shot! I believe he's been offered a lucrative movie contract to make Saving Private Shwarzer!!

Never doubt the Australian will to win guys, don’t forget the Underarm cricket ball involving the Chappell brothers in 1981 against the Kiwis.

I remember that and I'm sure Dan does. To be fair to you Aussies, from what I remember, the Chappells came in for a lot of stick from colleagues, fans and the general public.

It's not an issue for me. I am a quadruple season ticket holder and Percy, my butler, sends his chauffeur's chauffeur to fetch us all one.
You need four seats and have another Percy, not Fat X Ford worker in disguise are you?

yes but players know any contact a player could go down he took a needless risk ,there was no need to make any contact ,and allow the keeper to simulate a foul
