The new secretary of the Hampshire Professional Golfers’ Association has taken up office.

Paul Brown, a PGA professional for nearly 25 years who is currently associated with Alresford, has succeeded David Wheeler.

Wheeler’s 12-year stint in the role ended at the start of the month when he took up the equivalent position at the Hampshire County Golf Union.

Brown’s first tasks included picking up a new Volkswagen Golf donated to the association for the year by sponsors Peter Cooper VW, in Hedge End.

“I am absolutely honoured and obviously excited and ready for the new challenges the position holds,” said Brown.

“It’s the number one county, and that’s what makes it such a privilege to go and work for it.

“David leaves a huge legacy. Working with him and shadowing him, you can see his organisation has been superb.”

Hampshire PGA chairman Gary Stubbington added: “I have been involved with Hampshire for more than 30 years and every secretary we have had in that time has added to the association.”
