Browning Crowsports took an early lead in this year’s Avon Valley Winter League, comfortably winning the first round on the Basingstoke Canal at Fleet with 50 points, which included three section winners.

Shakespeare Hansfords Green (36 points) and Shakespeare Hansfords Blue (34 points) followed them home. Others: Tubertini South 33, Arun Angling and Allans Marine 28. Individually Pete Salmon (Tubertini South) took 6lb 6oz of skimmers and roach on a mixture of bread punch and caster from behind the Fox and Hounds to shade Shakespeare Hansfords Greens’ Den Rowden (6lb 5.5oz of roach, perch and skimmers on the pole, pinkie and ground bait from Malthouse Bridge).
