MICHAEL Lumb helped inflict an eight-wicket thrashing of his former Yorkshire teammates in their Champions League T20 opener against Sydney Sixers.

Lumb hit an unbeaten 43 from only 24 balls as Sydney romped to victory with 67 balls to spare of the Group B game at Newlands, Cape Town.

Mitchell Starc, another former Yorkshire player and the leading wicket taker in last season’s FLt20 competition – despite being unavailable for Finals Day - took 3-22 as the Tykes were restricted to 96-9, having qualified last week.

Shane Watson took 2-27 before opening the Sydney batting with former Hampshire teammate Lumb, who put on 78 in seven overs with Brad Haddin (41 from 21 balls) as the Sixers reached their target in just 8.5 overs.

Yorkshire stay in Cape Town to play the Mumbai Indians on Thursday.
