Trojans celebrating after installation of new floodlights at Stoneham Park
6:00am Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Rugby
The future is looking bright for Trojans RFC – with the installation of new floodlights and the club’s first win of the season.
An 18-month project to light up two Stoneham Park pitches was completed just in time, as the first XV get ready to switch on to the new season this weekend.
The scheme came together with the support of RFU development officer Ivan Torpey and Jason Blower of the RFU.
MP Caroline Noakes was special guest as the lights were put to the test with an evening game between Trojans and Army side Cockney Farmers.
Half the £82,500 cost of the project was paid for by the RFU while donations from Hampshire RFU, the Rugby Football Foundation, Hampshire Playing Fields Association, club fundraising and donations made up the remainder.
Club chairman Shaun Magill said: “Trojans would like to say a big thank you to all who helped provide this great facility which will help develop all our players for the future form young to old.”
Trojans ladies kicked off their season with a 15-10 win over Hove in championship 1 South – tries coming from Hannah Hartshorn, Juliana Streaker and Sarah Butler.
