Gosport & Fareham stretched their lead at the top of London 2 South-West and put a huge dent in Tottonians’ promotion hopes.

Leaders Gos got the better of third-placed Totts 34-15 at Gosport Park and increased their points advantage over Guildford.

Sean Shepherd, Wayne Dugan and Tim Snowden gave Gosport a 19-3 lead after 25 minutes, with the extra points coming from Tom Lewis’s boot.

Totts’ reply was a Robbie Searle penalty but his normally reliable boot missed a couple of chances to draw some points back.

However, Totts did strike next when Ali Ramus went over.

Lewis brought up Gosport’s bonus point try on the hour and Wes Dugan also got in on the act before Tottonians finished off with a converted try – Michael Searle touching down and Robbie Searle making the kick.

Totts’ Bryn Marshall dislocted a shoulder during the game and teammate Faisal Mutiti, only recently returned from a long injury, left the field with a torn hamstring.

Second-placed Guildford were given a tougher time at Stoneham Park where hosts Trojans at least picked up a point for being within seven points – the Surrey side winning 20-13.

Trojans were 13-3 down at half-time – an Emillion Cabale penalty in reply to two from the visitors, who also scored a try.

The scoreline would have been closer had not Chris Hamp’s foot been judged to have gone into touch.

The Frenchman slotted home another penalty after the break before Guildford struck with another converted try.

Hamp got his score when he went over in the corner. Cabale converted.
