WHAT an end to the track and field season it has been for Southampton AC’s Josh Wise.

The under-15 thrower broke the club’s age-group shot put record at the South of England Championships in Ashford with a mark of 13.80 metres and followed that up with silver in the discus.

A week later he was back in action at the South of England under-15/under-20 Inter-County Championships in Horspath, Oxfordshire, pocketing a further three medals.

The discus was his star event this time, striking gold with 42.28m. Wise also took silver in the javelin with a personal best 51.67 and bronze in the hammer.

Southampton's Callaway family were also in the medals at Horspath – Matt finishing his junior career with under-20 men’s discus bronze (42.63) and his younger sister Sam following her English Schools’ win with a 36.39 victory.

On the track, Finley Ryves won bronze in the under-15 boys’ 200 metres (24.55 seconds) and under-20 Sam Costley ran a 6.26.51 personal best for fourth in the 2000 metres steeplechase.

Jasmyn Allen jumped 4.56 metres for tenth in the under-15 girls’ long jump and fellow under-15 Callum Gregson added two centimetres to his high jump lifetime best with a 1.70m clearance for fifth. English Schools high jump champion Adam Jones won the under-20 title with 1.95m.

The previous weekend at Ashford, Callum Gregson had claimed under-15 boys’ high jump bronze and Bradley Jenvey was sixth in the javelin.

Reiss Jarvis wound up as the under-17 men’s 400m bronze medallist, while throws ace Sam Callaway pocketed a hat-trick of under-15 girls’ bronze medals in javelin, shot and discus.

Emma Frome added a silver lining for the under-17 women in the shot put.

With the season fast coming to a conclusion, all eyes now turn to the National Young Athletes League grand final at Bedford on September 3 when Southampton's youngsters take on the rest of the best in the country.
